Here's Mary Gonçalves saga. She started as an actrees in Brazilian movies, then switched over to being a singer... in 1952 she won the Queen of Radio competition out-of-the-blue and became really popular until the end of the decade. In 1960, she married an American citizen and went away...

Vassourinha was a smart Black kid who worked as a cleaner-office-boy at Radio Record in the late 1930s. He had a knack to sing sambas and soon left his menial job for a much better paid one at the microphone of the radio station. After recording a few singles he became really popular... singing at night-clubs and having late-nights. He had tuberculosis and died in 1942 when he was just 19 years old.

Zé da Zilda aka Jose Gonçalves died on 9 October 1954 of a massive stroke. He had just finished recording 'Ressaca' that would hit the top of the charts in January 1955. For some unexplained reason Zé's body had to be exhumed and when they unearthed the coffin they found out the body had been moved somehow. The whole country only talked about the fact that Zé da Zilda had been buried alive... Of course this is not true but the legend was strong than any truth...
