How To Ensure Consistent Motivation For Training - The Smart Runner
This week on The Smart Runner Podcast we’re talking how to maintain steady and consistent motivation for training. There are times when we need to ease off, but how do we keep motivation for training on those winter nights when we’d rather stay in where its warm and dry?

*This Week In Stories: Running And Mental Health*
http://buff.ly/2ffaM5d

This week in Stories, Alister Brown shares his experience of utilising running to deal with anxiety and depression in the hope that it will help others find a way through their difficulties.
I first met Alister in 2014 at Harold Mc Guinness's Quadrathon, the 4 day marathon challenge in Donegal. We stayed in the same B&B. Like many who experience mental health difficulties, Alister showed a friendly outward persona and offered nothing to suggest his challenges.

Only when I reached out to him about writing for The Smart Runner recently did he offer to share his experiences, allowing me and you a glimpse at the mental struggle that sufferers of mental illness endure.

I think we all have mind stability issues from time to time, although some of us more acutely. Maybe Alister sharing his experience here, will help the rest of us become more sympathetic to others and open to those who might be suffering in silence.

Thanks Alister for being so open and candid.

Any of you guys gone 100% clean with your diet? I'm looking for viable alternatives to commercial gels and "energy" drinks either homemade or available in a health store.

All nutrition before and after events is fine for me but I'd like to source good quality event nutrition that's not fake food.

I'm a pretty strong promoter of strength training for marathon running and I believe every runner needs to be doing at least two testing sessions per week. But I wanted some solid data on the benefits so I went looking.

With a quick search on Google Scholar I found four studies that found Running Economy (RE) in the subjects studied was significantly increased. This week on The Smart Runner Podcast I break down what I discovered in simple terms and offer some anecdotal accounts of the benefits of a focused and consistent strength program.

Check it out, see what you think - Larry
