Me and my husband wanted to have a special valentines dinner, but early in the week to avoid the crowds. So Tues. we decided to make the drive to El Rancho Grande 30 mins away. When we showed up we started to walk in and apparently the owner informed us they were closed, and I then asked my husband what time it was, because I thought I had lost track of time. But no it was 7:30, then she informed us that there was still one other table there so they would seat us. I asked are you sure?? She said yes they were just going to close early because it had been slow...Professional.. We should have left, they seemed irritated by our presence, and we felt they were trying to hurry us out of there. After they brought out our food it wasn't long before the candles were blown out and chairs put up and then the waiter comes by to mention it was last call for alcohol, and wanted to know if we wanted anything else? Then we ordered one more beer, and then the music was shut off. The food was ok, the salsa was more like tomato sauce. We asked if they had something more spicy, and they did, it actually had some flavor. I am from El Paso and know really good Mexican food and this isn't it. It was a bit above average to me, but how we were treated was wrong. It was supposed to be special, and it was far from that. I wish she had just turned us away if they wanted to go home; 730 to close is ridiculous to me.. If you want really good Mexican or Texmex go for La Margarita in Irving, or Hacienda Ranch in Grapevine.. Waaaaay better food and service!!! I wish I had took my husbands suggestion and just went somewhere else when she said they were closed.

Authentic, delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere! One of the best hidden treasures in dfw. I could eat the salsa and chips all day.

Not impressed! Had a to go tonight. Beef fajitas and chicken flautas. Flautas were over fried tasted of just grease and the chicken was dry and tasteless. The rice was dry. The salad and guacamole was brown!! The only good thing was the chips and salsa that's all we ate. So we paid 26$ for some chips and salsa as the rest went in the trash!! Hopefully it was just near to closing time and not always this poor! I read great reviews but then everyone has there own opinion I guess!!!!

This is a very well run resturant where the food is excellent and the service is too. As a Fort Worth native I have been very pleased from my very first experience going there. It is usually not "over crowded" - which is a good thing. Even when they are super busy the wait time is acceptable. They have an enjoyable atmosphere that is not blasting loud music which allows you actually carry on a conversation with others as you dine. Prices are very reasonable and it is well worth the visit every time. There are a ton of Mexican food choices in our area - good, better and best. I put this one right at the top.

Bland food. Noone eating there under 70. Felt like eating at Luby's. Thin chips were great. Queso tasted like it came out of a can! Hot sauce would make a great shrimp cocktail. More like marinara really. Margarita seemed to have no alcohol whatsoever. Would not recommend to anyone looking for "authentic mexican food".
Liked: Service, Atmosphere
Disliked: Food, Value
