Appalling! The good reviews must be from family and friends. Small cages, unhealthy looking animals, muddy enclosures. What a sad life of an animal here in cold, concrete, dismal cages. I think the owner has gotten in way over their heads. They seem to be holding on but the best thing for the animals would be to let them go to live out their lives in some bigger sanctuary finally! This place left us feeling miserable and hopeless. As for the snakes?! Nobody around to tell you about them, just stuck in tiny shoebox cages. SAD, SAD, SAD. I'm sorry animals!

This place made me sick to my stomach. My husband and I stopped by and decided to check it out. We had never been there before and didn't know that it was also a zoo. We thought it would be some really cool snakes you could touch and learn about. Not at all. There are alot of snakes inside but they are in tiny cages. The zoo is the worst. It has really dirty, small cages with concrete floors. There were some really beautiful and exotic animals but the cage enclosures they were in were too small for them. Very disgusting. I would not go again and I would not recommend anyone else to go.

This is Texas...Snake Farm has animals that can sustain the extreme temps of this area...so no polar bears. My family and I live within 30 miles of this place and we go once every couple months...it is a lot of fun for all ages. The petting zoo is always a hit :-) It's even invigorating for those who are totally creeped out by creepy crawlers and slithering serpents :-) The keepers are always willing to explain in great detail (when asked) fun facts about the animals. As far as the person who commented on the water issue, I have seen a few of the cages that had no water, but that was only a few...the keepers are always happy if you tell them about it...so speak up for the animals. As far as the ones ranking this a 1 Star location, they obviously had a one time experience that I have not had in the 10 + times that I have gone. I think you will find some sort of enjoyment at this place...it's worth $10 per person :-)

With new exhibits, The Snake Farm/Animal World in New Braunfels is guaranteed to be a fun family outing. Be sure and check out the show schedules online before you arrive. They do not have one printed, nor do they make some big announcement either. There are plenty of snakes and reptiles for viewing indoors. If you arrive in the heat of the afternoon, you can see the outdoor critters first, then cool off indoors. You can purchase food like hot dogs and what not on the grounds, but it's not worth the price. Admission can be worth every penny if you view the show schedule before hand. Other than that, do not expect an expert giving you the facts on the reptiles or any other animals. New exhibits are in the making, but the highlights are certainly the White Lion Cubs and the Otters if you catch them playing.

It makes my heart hurt so see the negative reviews on this zoo. At the beginning of each of their shows a keeper explains the history behind the place. The new owner purchased the zoo a few years back and has been working tirelessly to help the place grow. It is obvious which exhibits are new or have been remodeled and any of the old exhibits that look "dirty" or "tiny" just have not been redone yet. It takes time to build (and rebuild!!) a zoo! There are such drastic plans to expand the zoo and exceed typical zoo standards. Keepers are always engage with the public and it's awesome to see how well they interact with the animals. Everyone at this place is dedicated and passionate about the wellbeing of their animals.

I thought it was just a snake farm and wanted to take my 12 year old boy, but it had several other animals in small enclosures that were muddy and gross. I felt so bad for the animals. On their website, they have a picture of lemurs and the background is a forest. There is no forest, only cages like kennels. I left depressed and wished that I could wash my feet off. It was sad to see the animals sitting or laying on a log or on top of a wood box while people looked at them and to think that they do this every day. I regret supporting this "Snake Farm".

Response from the owner - 2 months ago
Hello! So sorry your time here was less than satisfactory, we are unable to control this crazy Texas weather right now and being an outside zoo unfortunately that can mean mud. As for the enclosure size and emotional state of our animals we are all held to ZAA standards so to questions their enclosures is to question the entire system behind zoos. But we here at Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo believe in going above and beyond hence why we are taking all the old enclosures ripping them out and providing above standard homes for our animals you can see all the construction in your visits and we make it very clear during all our shows. Until that is completed and even when it is we believe in enrichment, the animals get one on one time, interaction, stimulating toys, and full rage of diets. We take our animals health and well being beyond serious here so next time you're concerned about an animal we would love to come out and educate you as we pour our heart and soul into these animals 12 hours a day minimum. If there is anything I can clear up feel free to respond, call in, or even visit again. -Animal World & Snake a Farm Zoo Keeper
