So here's the deal, don't come here for brunch, but instead come for dinner. It's the same food with absolutely no wait. It's just as good, trust me. ;) The beignet flight, shrimp and grits, fried chicken and biscuits are all really tasty. The cool thing about the chicken is that it's got an unexpected sweetness and slight spice that ads some special magic. It's one of the more unique fried chicken's I've had in my life.

The food here is absolutely incredible - keep in mind that this is a Soul Food place, which means that the food will be HELLA HEAVY. Start your meal off with a beignet flight (there are tons of different flavors) and then go for ANY of their regular entrees. My friend ordered a shrimp and grits dish and I ordered a pork dish. There are some vegetarian options as well, but I would stick to something meat-related, if you can. Be wary of weekend brunch because this place fills up quickly. I would recommend showing up by 9:30 am if you want anything less than an hour wait :)

This place has all the flavor of southern soul food with a hip clean interior that attracts a lot of young hipsters to the Tenderloin for food adventures. Although it's a bit far from the true grittiness of the neighborhood, it's a great place to grab a beignet flight (4 different types of beignets including a crawfish one!) and some southern style brunch on the weekend. The only downside in terms of food is that their grits are way too oily and rich in taste and it's hard to eat more that a few spoons of it. If you arrive on a weekend, prepare to wait over an hour for a table!

Note: This review is given by a vegetarian! My wife and I are vegetarians and we wanted to try out this place since we had heard very good things about Brenda's. We went late around 1.30 PM to avoid the rush and had to wait about 15-20 mins until we were seated. The drinks came in quick but the food took a solid 40 minutes or so. My wife doesnt like eggs so she orders the vegan Josephine and I got the creole veggie omelette. The Vegan Josephine was served with fries but the tofu quantity was overwhelming and the taste was very monotonous after a few bites. The omelette was very ordinary that you would get at any diner and served with a side of potato hash and a choice of bread. Service was decent but overall Brenda's didnt live up to the hype it has.

It's all about the beignets!!! They have both sweet and savory ones. My favorite is the crawfish beignet. It's crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The line to get a seat can get crazy, so get there early! This is one of the most popular places for brunch on the weekends.

On VACATION in the bay area and this place was recommended by a waiter the night before. As a southern boy from Texas this was a fun place, the atmosphere and music reminds you of New Orleans. I had the shrimp and grits and I Will have to say they were the best I have ever had. Worth the stop if you are visiting the area, you won't be disappointed.
