SENATOR TOM UDALL AND CONGRESSWOMAN MICHELLE LUJAN-GRISHAM CONGRATULATE YDI ON EARLY HEAD START EXPANSION AND CHILD CARE PARTNERSHIP GRANT

YDI has been selected as a recipient of the Early Head Start Expansion and Child Care Partnership Grant.  The award is from the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families to provide 80 Early Head Start opportunities for infants and toddlers 6 weeks to 3 years old.  The grant calls for a partnership between private child care centers and YDI. The purpose of the grant is to collaborate and train private providers on high quality Early Head Services. The grant award is for $1,551,325.

YDI has selected wonderful partners with St. Marks’s in the Valley (Tory Pruitt, Center Director and First Fruits Academy (Pastor Dennis Dunn and Laverne Dunn, Center Director). These are the individuals who are vested in the community and want to serve infants, toddlers and families using the high quality standards of the Early Head Start model.  In our opinion, Head Start is the best and most comprehensive child development program in the country!

Both Senator Tom Udall and Congresswoman Michelle Lujan-Grisham called to congratulate Youth Development, Inc. on this award.  The following reflects quotes from both of them.

"Congratulations to the Youth Development Inc. for their new Early Head Start grant! This federal grant award builds on their record of success providing important services for young children and their families. Collaborating with other community partners will enable YDI to expand their efforts, will help ensure that low-income children in New Mexico begin kindergarten prepared to achieve their full potential, and that parents have the resources to build successful families and support their children's healthy development. I'm proud to support funding for programs like Early Head Start that support children's well-being and school preparedness, and that strengthen New Mexico families." -U.S. Senator Tom Udall

“YDI is committed to changing the lives of children and families in our community for the better and this Early Head Start grant is one more opportunity toward that goal. Working with private community partners, 80 at-risk young children will  participate in the successful Head Start program that focuses on cognitive, social and emotional development so they can be ready for kindergarten. Early childhood education has proven long-lasting beneficial effects on the overall development of children and helps ensure they will reach their full potential.” - Congresswoman Michelle Lujan-Grisham
