Video: When Should I Start My Job Search? - Around this time of year, I get a lot of questions about when to start a job search. I took a moment to share my thoughts on how to reframe this question to focus more about what a job search is and not just when to start a job search. Cambodian Son: Deportation, Incarceration & Inspiration - When I arrived in Cambodia for the first time in July 2014, he picked me up from the airport. He managed to carefully pack my four bags into the tuk tuk. I had met his mother, sisters and a nephew prior to my arrival. They hadn't seen him in years and sent him plenty of gifts. Three suitcases full in fact. He is Kosal Khiev, deported poet & spoken word artist. I was first introduced to Kosal in the feature film, ... http://ow.ly/2X7FEI

This becomes especially hard to explain when you’re “just” writing the dissertation. This term, I have no classes to att... http://ow.ly/2X0Vno

"Responding to Chaos" Rackham Exhibition - Art as Action, Engagement, and Revelation, March 25th – May 5, 2015 The theme we are exploring for the Winter 2015 semester is artistic responses to the observation of or the experience of chaos. Think back to a time when you were troubled, saddened or confused about a situation in the world, perhaps a chaotic event near home or far away. Recall a time when you experienced personal entropy, turmoil or sadness in your life. Mayb... http://ow.ly/2WHfxh

Six Unbelievable Hacks to Survive Quals - Spoiler alert: just like in your average click-bait article, there is no real hack. One of the great joys about qualifying and preliminary exams is being done with them and being able to look back fondly on them after emerging from that dark, dark tunnel. Since I suspect many readers are in the darkest depths of that tunnel at this point of the academic year, I would like to try to shed a little gleam of light on the process. I ... http://ow.ly/2WzY8Z
