While an hour-long yoga and meditation class would be ideal to get the day started, unfortunately sometimes we don’t have the time (or the inclination to get out of our pyjamas). This is a 10-minute sequence that encourages the use of mindful breathing and gentle movement ensuring your day begins with ease and joy.

1) Child's Pose (Balasana) - Stay here for 5-10 breaths, or however long feels good for you.
2) Cat/Cow Pose (Bidalasana) - Breathe through 5 rounds, or longer if it feels good.
3) Downward Dog Pose (Adho Mukha Svanasana) - Another 5 -10 breaths here.
4) Standing Forward Bend Pose (Uttanasana) - 10 breaths here and you’ll feel a foot taller.
5) Triangle Pose (Trikonasana) - 5 breaths here and repeat on the other side.

Now enjoy your day!

Self-development arises when you become self-aware and recognise your need to address issues and remedy old negative patterns and weaknesses. However, awareness alone is not enough. You need to act and make appropriate positive changes by combining self-awareness and self-regulation. A yogic approach to self-development could include the regular practice of some form of yoga, including relaxation and meditation techniques, lifestyle adjustments, and an education on how to better relate to the world and you. Engaging in meaningful self-development allows you to create your own happiness and fulfilment so that you can experience all the wonderful and meaningful elements of life.
