Experiment in online transhumanist discussion - tomorrow

As an experiment, the team at transhumanism.slack.com are setting up a time-window tomorrow for an online community chat using Slack.

It's going to take place on the #general channel of https://transhumanism.slack.com/.

(That Slack was set up by members of the transhumanist community in Australia, but has participants from worldwide.)

If you're not already a member of that community, and would like a login, please send an email to info@transhumanism.com.au.

Any global discussion is going to happen at a time which is inconvenient/impossible for many people worldwide, sorry. In this case, for the first chat, the time has been chosen to be broadly suitable for people in Australasia, Asia, Africa, and Europe. It will last for one hour from 10am GMT tomorrow (Sunday 13th March). For details in your timezone, click on http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Transhumanism+Slack+Discussion%3A+How+do+we+decide+what+to+prioritise%3F&iso=20160313T10&p1=136&ah=1.

The stated topic for this first, experimental discussion is:

"How do we decide what to prioritise"

The "we" here is deliberately loose. It refers to anyone who joins the Slack channel in question. People could talk about how they decide priorities for themselves. Or what priorities they wish groups would adopt.

Themes we could explore include our priorities for:
*) Our use of time
*) Our use of money
*) Keeping fit and healthy
*) Keeping knowledgeable
*) The communities we join
*) The projects we support

H+Pedia is a project to spread accurate, accessible, non-sensationalistic information about transhumanism among the general public.

Since its creation in July 2015, H+Pedia has already grown to over 600 pages of information.

This Hangout On Air is an opportunity for people to review the future plans for H+Pedia, as visible on the Trello board https://trello.com/b/T7NCqIjc/framework. Please help the team to determine priorities, and to identify volunteers well suited to particular challenges.

The discussion will be led by the co-administrators of H+Pedia: Chris Monteiro and David Wood.

Options to take part in this Hangout are as follows:

1.) View the discussion from the G+ page https://plus.google.com/events/c5lh1o713uq2u0tofipblt5ud4o. From here, if you are logged into a G+ account, you'll be able to raise text questions via the Q&A app in the video window

2.) View the discussion on YouTube, here: http://youtu.be/BigGpCxt2rw

3.) Join the panel discussion (in which case the feed from your camera and microphone will be broadcast as part of the Hangout) via this link: https://plus.google.com/hangouts/_/hoaevent/AP36tYeEgkHyPL23CZBqk20Uni_degrsa3ApywmHFa5MmzPB1CdHpQ. (The number of panellists is limited, so only click on that link if you are seriously thinking of becoming an H+Pedia contributor. And in this case, you should ensure that your browser has already installed the latest Google Hangout software, ahead of joining the call.)

Note: H+Pedia can be found at http://hpluspedia.org/.

This Hangout On Air will start at 7pm UK time on Sunday 17th January, and run for one hour.

PS There's now a matching Facebook Event page at https://www.facebook.com/events/977128089027102/.

Early bird discounted registration for http://anticipating2040.com/ is available until the end of August. This one day conference features eleven speakers who will address aspects of a potential roadmap to sustainable abundance between the present day and the year 2040.

** Here's the vision for the conference:

Sustainable abundance is just around the corner – provided we humans collectively get our act together.

We have within our grasp a sustainable abundance of renewable energy, material goods, health, longevity, intelligence, creativity, freedom, and positive experience.

All being well, this can be attained within one human generation, by wisely accelerating the green technology revolution – including stem cell therapies, 3D printing, prosthetics, robotics, nanotechnology, genetic engineering, synthetic biology, neuro-enhancement, artificial intelligence, and supercomputing.

The rich fruits of technology – abundance – can and should be provided for all, not just for those who manage to rise to the top of the present-day social struggle.

A bold reorganisation of society can and should take place in parallel with the green technology revolution – so that everyone can freely access the education, healthcare, and everything else needed to flourish as a full member of society.

Within 25 years – that is, by 2040 – human society could be radically transformed.

To channel the energies of industry, business, finance, universities, and the media, for a richly positive outcome within the next generation, powerful actions are needed. The speakers at this conference will highlight aspects of a roadmap for transformation, including profound changes in politics, philosophy, social structure, and even human nature.

The UK's (and probably Europe's) first parliamentary candidate standing for election on an openly transhumanist platform, Alexander Karran, will be answering questions in this live video interview.

Submit your questions in advance by clicking the Q&A button on the event page, https://plus.google.com/events/cp805obphluk34ncn75jere5vec - and give +1 votes to the questions from other audience members that you particularly like. (You'll need to be signed into a Google account in order to use the Q&A plug-in.)

For the best experience watching the event, use the Google+ event page. If you prefer to watch the event live on YouTube, you can find it here: http://youtu.be/VTsWo1Tu11Q.
