Chilled Prairie Dog
COLO11D-46
December 28, 2011
http://wanderinglensphoto.blogspot.com/2012/05/chilled-prairie-dog.html

Thinking back to the winter in Colorado, that wide open space where the Front Range coasts down and begins the prairie of the midwest. This guy, fattened up from his late autumn munchings, is burrowing back in (at the sound of my crunchy footsteps) to his winter hiding place. He was pretty patient while I crept up, but eventually I crossed that invisible safety barrier and he scampered away. Enjoy.

Spring Flora
FLOW08D-39
August 19, 2008
http://wanderinglensphoto.blogspot.com/2012/05/spring-flora.html

A little bit of spring for the morning, these beautiful flowers in full bloom, taken at the University of Illinois Arboretum in Champaign-Urbana. I love how the sharp flowers in the foreground fade to just a blur at the background, and the soft colors are punctuated by a single sliver of light. A nice floral pattern to end the week with. Enjoy.

It sounds like the state fossil of South Carolina could be the opinions of the state legislators.
An eight-year-old girl’s bid to have the woolly mammoth become the state fossil of South Carolina is being stalled by creationists.

The Dark Acacia

http://wanderinglensphoto.blogspot.com/2012/05/dark-acacia.html

An image from Kenya for today, a silhouette of the acacia trees that dot the landscape. This was taken just outside of Nairobi, as the sun set on a warm day, the clouds of a storm just creeping past the horizon. Enjoy.

Energy Turning
KENY10D-175
March 23, 2010
http://wanderinglensphoto.blogspot.com/2012/05/energy-turning.html

As much as I love the outdoors, I also love protecting it, and that means (in one respect) the pursuit of alternative energy. I will not jump on my soapbox this morning, but instead show quick image I took while in Kenya, working with traditional healers and medicinal plants. We went out to do some light harvesting and inventorying and there was a row of huge wind turbines (the van we took is at the lower left for comparison) on the ridge above Nairobi. These large generators were slowly turning in the afternoon breezes as we worked, the clouds rolling by to provide a backdrop to their pursuit of clean energy. Enjoy.

Lonely Macaque Baby
THAI10D-53
November 24, 2010
http://wanderinglensphoto.blogspot.com/2012/05/lonely-macaque-baby.html

I have been away for part of the week, taking care of Sarah after some wisdom teeth removal (feel better!). She is on the road to recovery, and so today I wanted to put up an image of a cute baby monkey. Among the troupe of northern pig-tailed macaques (Macaca leonina) we came across in Khao Yai National Park, Thailand, this little baby was off to one side, watching the antics of his older relatives. So sweet, though his father/uncle was none too pleased about our presence so close to the gathering. Enjoy.

Introduction
I am a passionate outdoorsman, enjoying long backpacking trips, short day hikes, kayaking, cycling, and climbing on land, and SCUBA diving, snorkeling in the great oceans of the world.  I enjoy photography and creating beautiful images of the world and all its greatness.

By trade I am a graduate student, working on a doctorate in medicinal plant chemistry.  I study traditional plant medicines and investigate their chemistry for health-promoting properties in a fashion that respects and enhances traditional ecological knowledge and intellectual property.

I am happily married to an awesome woman, Sarah, and we have a newborn daughter.
