Too hot to handle. Too cold to hold.
On this day:
At 16th June of 1989, the movie "Ghostbusters II" was released.

'Ghostbusters II' is the sequel to 'Ghostbusters.' Directed by Ivan Reitman, this 1989 classic supernatural comedy stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver.

After saving New York City from Gozer, the Ghostbusters were forced out of business after being sued for property damages. They reform when a new threat faces the city in the form of supernatural slime flowing below New York City.

'Ghostbusters II' opens up five years after 'Ghostbusters.' Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) is heading home with her baby boy Oscar. His baby carriage runs through a mysterious slime that has seeped through the sidewalk. The baby carriage takes off by itself and ends up in the middle of a busy intersection where it stops. Meanwhile Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Ernie Hudson) travel in a very rundown Ghostbuster mobile to perform at a birthday party.

They have been reduced to this because after the Ghostbusters defeated Gozer five years ago they were sued for property damages. This resulted in them being broken up and forced out of the ghost busting business. Besides being an entertainer, Ray also owns an occult bookstore, Egon is working as a researcher and Peter is hosting a psychic TV show.

After the incident with the baby carriage, Dana goes to see Egon and ask him for help. Ray and Egon and to the dismay of Dana, Peter, come to her apartment to find out what happened with Oscar and the baby carriage. In their research, they have readings of paranormal activity below the street where the baby carriage stop. That night they return to the street and block part of it off and jack hammer the street up. Ray is lowered down the hole and discovers a river of slime in an old abandoned rail line.

On the way up, he manages to knock out the power to the area. As a result, the Ghostbusters are arrested. Meanwhile, Dana’s boss at the Manhattan Museum of Art, Dr. Janosz Poha (Peter MacNicol), becomes possessed by the spirit of Vigo the Carpathin, a 17th century tyrant, who is trapped in a painting at the museum. Vigo orders Janosz to find a child that he can posses so he can return to life.

The Ghostbusters are put on trial and they have Louis Tully (Rick Moranis) as their lawyer. They are found guilty of investigating the supernatural, which they are not allowed to do, by Judge Stephen Wexler (Harris Yulin). As they are about to be sentenced, the slime that they recovered erupts in reaction to the judge’s angry outburst and releases two ghosts that wreck havoc on the courtroom. The Ghostbusters manage to capture the ghosts after the judge agrees to dismiss all charges and allow them return to the ghostbusting business.

Dana and Oscar are attacked by the slime, this time in Dana’s apartment. Dana and Oscar go to Peter’s apartment. In investigating the slime, Egon finds that it reacts to bad vibes. The Ghostbusters also find out about Vigo’s morbid history. Ray, Egon and Winston go to investigate the river of slime while Peter takes Dana to dinner.

While measuring the depth of the slime, Winston is pulled into the river of slime. Egon and Ray follow him to see where the river leads. They find that it leads to the Manhattan Museum of Art, where Dana works. Ray, Egon and Winston go and interrupt Peter and Dana’s dinner. The Ghostbusters end up being arrested once again. They go to see the mayor and end up being put into a psychiatric hospital.

Janosz, in spirit form, shows up at Peter’s apartment and kidnaps Oscar. Dana follows and winds up at the museum, which becomes covered in an impenetrable layer of slime after she enters. After this happens, New York City becomes engrossed in supernatural activity as the slime seeps onto the streets. Lewis gets the Ghostbusters released and they head to the museum.

They are unable to weaken the slime with their power packs. They then use positively charged slime and a remix of the song Higher and Higher to animate the Statue of Liberty. They pilot the Statue of Liberty through the streets of New York City to the Manhattan Museum of Art. They are able to break into the top of the museum to get to Vigo and Janosz.

They take out Janosz with positively charged slime. However, Vigo immobilizes the Ghostbusters and attempts to transfer into Oscar’s body. Outside of the museum people begin singing Auld Lang Syne and this causes the slime and Vigo to weaken. The Ghostbusters become freed and used their proton packs on Vigo while Lewis, who has shown up, attacks the slime on the outside.

Together Lewis and the Ghostbusters destroy Vigo and in the process they change the painting of Vigo into a likeness of them surrounding Oscar. The movie ends with the Ghostbusters receiving an ovation from the crowd outside the museum.

During its release, 'Ghostbusters II' was the biggest three-day opening weekend gross in history, a record that was broken one week later by Batman ($40,505,884). "Ghostbusters II" eventually grossed $112.4 million in North America and $102.9 million internationally for a total of $215.3 million worldwide

'Ghostbusters II' is a good sequel to 'Ghostbusters', but is not as good as the original. The movie has numerous comedic moments. One of the humorous moments in the movie is when Lewis puts on a Ghostbuster uniform and earmuffs and then heads off to help the boys. It is also funny when he gets on the bus and finds Slimer driving.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver once again do a good job. The movie has a good soundtrack performed by Randy Edelman. The movie once again features the very memorable Ghostbuster mobile. If you like the first 'Ghostbusters' movie then 'Ghostbusters II' is worth adding to your personal movie collection.
