Cornell Hotel De France
715 Bush St, San Francisco, CA 94108
I was to be in SanFrancisco for a meeting, but wanted a break from the standard fare of business hotels, but didn't want luxury hotel prices. It was also imperative that it be well located and convenient to public transportation. We started the trip poorly, with the flights canceled issued our connecting flight, and arrived a day late. The hotel was personal and gracious, forgiving the late arrival. We literally had to dump our bags in the lobby and rush to my speaking engagement, for which I was already late. I was a bit concerned about the lack of air-conditioning, but it was delightful. We spend a lot of time in France, and can't stand cheesy cliche French atmosphere. We had some misgivings with the larger than life Joan of Arc wedged in between the realistically small French elevator and the "cave" style restaurant. But it was all part of the attempt to fill the charming hotel with as much French memorabilia and charm as possible. Electronically, it was a bit challenging; but all in all lovely. Close to trolly stops and within easy distances of all major areas of interest, including walking distance from Union Square. I would definitely recommend this tiny oasis to anyone wanting to inject authentic charm into their stay.

Dolphins Rescue a Surfer

On one hot August day, Todd Endris, 24 year old owner of Monterey Aquarium services decided to go surfing with some friends. While surfing, a 15 foot shark appeared. The shark tried to bite him but could not get its jaws around both the surfer and the surf board, it came around for a second try where it got Todd clamped between his surf board and its jaws, because his stomach was against the surf board Todd’s internal organs were not harmed, however he lost a lot of skin from his back, the shark let go and came at Todd for a third time and tried to swallow his right leg, however this gave the surfer the grip he needed to start kicking the shark in the snout until it let go, at this point when Todd was running out of energy and thought he was done for, a pod of dolphins came out and formed a protective ring around him, keeping the shark at bay long enough for Todd to catch a wave back to shore and receive emergency first aid from his friend.

“It’s a very different time now, and Mitt Romney is a very different kind of candidate, one with the vision and determination to cut through business-as-usual politics and finally put this country back on the path to the Zombie Apocalypse.”

- Filmmaker Joss Whedon “endorses” Mitt Romney for president.

It is possible, just possible, this may be satirical. It is, however, definitely very, very funny. We all need brains.

Watch it here: http://www.deadline.com/2012/10/joss-whedon-endorses-mitt-romney-sorta/

I've been going to La Pinata off and on for years, but not recently. Today's lunch visit was a delight. At prime lunch time on a holiday weekend, I was seated right away. My enchiladas were suitably gooey with cheese and had a tasty gravy. The taco was crisp and tasty. A delicious and fairly hot salsa accompanied and added to the somewhat bland beans. Service was friendly and attentive. Parking was easy in their large lot.
