Introduction
I am a photographer, blogger and 'learning professional' working as a deputy principal for the NSW Department of Education and Communities, a large Public Education system with many enthusiastic and energetic advocates for changing paradigms to support children and communities to flourish. I also enjoy my role, supporting the next generation of teachers, as an English method lecturer at the University of Wollongong.

As the father of two daughters, 8 and 11, I have a perspective that is deeper than it once was about the importance of schools and schooling in our collective futures. We need to focus on learning and community, citizenship and democracy, if we are to thrive.

I spent 4 months with my family in Europe during 2011, mostly in Viborg, Denmark, where I was happily 'on exchange', learning more about Danish perspectives on life, learning and schooling. This was a fantastic opportunity on a number of levels.

I am passionately interested in 'civil society' and how that can be grown through relationships, trust, education and technology.

As a photographer and blogger - keen to learn, teach, shoot, write, travel and share - I hope to connect online with others who share my passions.

I am particularly enthusiastic about developing and connecting with emerging or experienced photographers in my local area.

If you are considering adding me to your circles I suggest:

What's on your pile? What books do you want from Santa? Here's my latest monthly review of books read with some suggestions for English teachers, including: The Singing Bones, Green Valentine, Keating and M Train. http://www.darcymoore.net/2015/11/28/november-2015-my-reading/
This month I have made a conscious effort to finish a number of half-read books and finally investigate some that have been on my “to read” lists for years. Fiction Shaun Tan is another Western Australian who produces highly original, inspired words and images. Several of his books are truly wonderful. I have spent many hours with his earlier work – especially The Lost Thing, The Red Tree and The Rabbits – but have not been enamoured with his mor...

The gull sees farthest who flies highest. Richard Bach As citizens of a free society, we have a duty to look critically at our world. But if we think we know what is wrong, we must act upon that knowledge. Tony Judt   I have lived a great deal among grown-ups. I have seen them intimately, close at hand. And that hasn’t much improved my opinion of them. Antoine Saint-Exupéry                                                                      …

Where do you get your books? Why has the printed book survived as well as it has? http://www.darcymoore.net/2015/11/08/where-do-you-get-your-books/ I would value comments at my blog about your buying patterns, especially, if like me, you find yourself spending more than ever on books across multiple formats.
I haven’t analysed how much money I spend proportionally on hardcover, paperback, audio or ebooks each year but know it is not as predicted several years back. The truth is, I spend almost as much money on traditionally bound books as the other two combined rather than my expenditure slowing to a trickle, as expected. It appears I am not alone. It seemed reasonably logical that ebooks would more than just dominate the market but virtually elimina...

"For some, a new #Houellebecq is the only event that approaches the childhood memory of a new Famous Five." http://www.darcymoore.net/2015/10/31/september-october-2015-my-reading/ #reading  #literature
But only literature can put you in touch with another human spirit, as a whole, with all its weaknesses and grandeurs, its limitations, its pettinesses, its obsessions, its beliefs; with whatever it finds moving, interesting, exciting or repugnant. Only literature can give you access to a spirit from beyond the grave – a more direct, more complete, deeper access than you’d have in conversation with a friend. ...
