2015 Treefort Music Fest Folk/Roots/World Playlist
The Treefort Music Fest is one of the more interesting things to happen to Boise in the past few years. Now in its third year, it's expanding across genres more than ever. This year there are more bands that will appeal to those who like their music a bit more rootsy.

So here is my personal Treefort playlist which, like my radio show, features a broad swath of folk music with a regional focus and an international flavor. I've included folk, roots, and world music artists, and I found a healthy dose of bluegrass bands from Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. Think of this as The Ramblers' Guide to Treefort.

Best of the Beat on Ramblers' Retreat
Offbeat Magazine announced the Best of the Beat last week. Every year they honor the best Louisiana musicians, and I'll play a number of these on tomorrow's radio show. A little blues, a little funk, some brass bands, some folk, and maybe a shot of jazz.

I also have some music from around Idaho and the Pacific Northwest, tributes to Bo Dollis and Dave Bourne, and the best Mac Davis cover you've ever heard.

Ramblers' Retreat is my weekly radio show, featuring a broad swath of traditional and new folk music with a regional focus and an international flavor. The show airs every Wednesday morning from 6:00 to 8:00 Mountain time on community radio station KRBX which transmits from my hometown of Caldwell, Idaho. It can be heard across the Treasure Valley on 89.9 FM and online everywhere on

Grammy Awards
The Grammy awards are given next Sunday, and I think I'll highlight a few winners on an upcoming radio show.

Sure, there are a ton of things to complain about when it comes to Grammy awards. I still think there is something to be gained from exploring the nominees and winners, especially in the American Roots Music genres.

First, there are some fantastic lifetime achievement awards this year from American roots musicians: Buddy Guy, Flaco Jiménez, and The Louvin Brothers (plus Wayne Shorter and Pierre Boulez). And there are quite a few nominees that I've played on Ramblers' Retreat: Bonsoir, Catin; Magnolia Sisters; Bobby Rush with Blinddog Smokin'; Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin; Eliza Gilkyson and many more.

Are there any Grammy nominees you'd like to hear on Ramblers' Retreat?
