Sometimes when I sit down and think about my freelance writing career I wonder what I could do differently, what I could do better. I don't earn a fortune from my writing at the moment. Maybe I could if I put in more hours, but I'm not sure I want to.

This piece from successful writer Carol Tice made interesting reading for me looking at both the pros and cons of being a six figure freelancer. While the money sounds nice, other parts of Carol's piece such as missing out on time with children due to work commitments resonated with me.

I'm lucky that I don't need to earn a six figure income from my writing. Yes it might be nice, but I'm lucky that my husband earns a wage that supports our family and my earnings are extra.

In many ways I freelance more to keep my brain working and to give me an outlet rather than just for the money and in a way that is flexible to enable me to also be a mother that can do school pick up every day, be there for sick days and have fun at weekends rather than working.

I probably still aspire to be a six figure freelancer, but Carol's article reminds me that the money isn't necessarily the only thing I focus on and that maybe my situation suits me just fine right now.

What do you think? Have you made sacrifices to be a six figure freelancer or are you happy earning less money but working less and being more relaxed?

Cupcakes, chocolate and strawberries. Not sure this recipe idea from Babble could get any better!

Monkey and I have recently been concentrating on writing after his first school reported highlighted the need to improve his handwriting a little. He isn't a really reluctant writer but definitely does better when he is writing about something he is interested in and focused, so I love these tips about motivating writers.
Motivating Reluctant Writers

It's not easy to motivate reluctant or resistant writers, but it may help to ask yourself two questions about your writing instruction. Find out what they are and the next steps you can take to encourage and inspire your reluctant writer. #reluctantwriters   #preschool   #writingwithkids   #ihsnet   #kbnmoms

It is official - I am no longer the mother of a pre-schooler. I am now a school mom. So proud of my boy heading off for his first proper day at school today. He didn't even give me a second glance when we got there he was so focused on getting into the classroom. Two hours to go until I pick him up.

Sitting alone in peace at home during the day while my boy is at a school visit. Feels lovely and kinda strange all at the same time! I feel like I should be really sad that he is starting school soon, but mainly I'm just excited for  the new chapter in all our lives.  Tell me how you felt when your little ones started school - should I be weeping in the corner or should I be embracing the extra free time??

Hi everyone,  I'm a New Zealand based freelance writer and blogger. I work from home while also being a mom to one child - currently a pre-schooler but soon to be a school age child. While part of me is sad that my child is growing up and I won't get all that time to spend with him any more, part of me is also really looking forward to having more time to work on my business and hopefully build my client base. Looking forward to being part of the community and learning and sharing.

I know there has been some discussion recently about using social media without it taking over your entire day. I thought this post from +Melissa Taylor about how to use Pinterest in a short amount of time was really useful. I love Pinterest but I find it easy to spend ages looking at all the pretty pins, so these tips are great for me.
Use Pinterest in less than 1 hour a day (-- how does 30 minutes sound?) Read the easy steps I share for quickly using Pinterest.  #pinterest   #marketingtips   #socialmedia
