Is there still not a way to nest or subtract circles here without installing some kind of plug-in? E.g., I want to see every circle except one (bloggers, media etc who post too often for me to keep up with). The only option seems to be to "block" them or unfollow them. But I just want to mute them and see my friends' posts. Is there no way to do this? Google really decided to create sets without giving us even the option to do the simplest test operations? Really annoying that they can't be bothered with something so simple yet critical!

"what is at issue is the dismantling of public education in California. Just six years ago, tuition at the University of California was $5357. Tuition is currently $12,192. According to current proposals, it will be $22,068 by 2015-2016. We have discussed this in my classes, and about one third of my students report that their families would likely have to pull them out of school..."

"Apparently, in the state of California felons incarcerated for violent crimes have rights that students at public universities do not."

"These issues go to the core of what democracy means. We have a major economic crisis in this country that was brought on by the greedy and irresponsible behavior of big banks. No banker has been arrested, and certainly none have been pepper sprayed. Arrests and chemical assault is for those trying to defend their homes, their jobs, and their schools.

These are not trivial matters. This is a moment to stand up and be counted. I am proud to teach at a university where students have done so."

Complex minds are always dialectical. Aristotle sets that as a basic requirement of being fully human, but because the reality of dialectical minds is that they always challenge assumptions and take nothing for granted, their presence in large numbers poses acute problems for corporate business and corporate government. - John Taylor Gatto

The elites realize this and will reserve the privilege of an education for their children. Modern society has become a club. You are not in it. You cannot afford the entry fee. You will never be able to afford the entry fee, no matter how hard you work.

According to Microsoft's recent findings from national surveys, we now have information about how students can be better prepared and encouraged to pursue post-secondary education in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. The US is going to have 1.2 million job openings in STEM related fields by 2018; however, there will be a shortage of qualified STEM students to fill the spots. Here are some Microsoft STEM survey key findings:57% of STEM college students said that before going to college, a teacher or class got them interested in STEM Male students (51%) were more likely than female students (35%) to pursue STEM because they enjoyed playing with games and toys, reading books, and participated in clubs that were focused on their chosen subject areas Female students (49%) were more likely than male students (34%) to say they chose STEM to make a difference
New survey among college students and parents of K–12 students provides implications for nurturing interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.

It's really a bizarre industry. Is it because academics are too afraid and/or busy to rock the boat?

interesting article! part of the reason is that no one in their right mind, except other professionals, would want to read most scientific research--there's no market force to nudge Elsevier. But how could it be ethical to keep any medical research (really ANY publicly-funded research) restricted? That guy who posted 1000s of JSTORS papers (that no one wants to read) has the right idea!

OK you know what I don't want to speak against anything that promotes science but the only woman who speaks in this video is Miley Cyrus and no female scientists are shown!!! ;-\

Everyone needs to know what is happening. We can't continue to bury our heads in sand any more. The links and videos on this page are depressing. Please watch them anyway.

Okay… the media is portraying what is going on as some silly flashback to the sixties. Right! Let's do that. Get in front of the local TV news cameras with about six smiling folks, maybe holding signs, and ruin their shot. Do it in front of a Bank o' America where there's a hired thug with a load gun and dressed like a storm trooper to scare their own customers.

It's a simple tactic. It works. You might get lucky and be on the evening news getting hauled away, or even pepper sprayed. That cop will have to go home to his very angry wife, face his own mom deeply disappointed in her kid when Thanksgiving arrives, and his kids will give him a rash of shit that might bring him to his senses. It might at least humiliate him into something like decent behavior.

I have finally gotten my hands on magnetic nail polish. LOVE! Not only did I get to nerd out with magnets and nail polish, I now have the Barberpole Illusion working on my nails when I rotate my hands! I cant' wait to take to polish to the MRI scanner!

Only you would be excited about taking nail polish to the MRI. This is why I love you.
