I have never been happy with the support forum at evidentiasoftware.com.  Today I have replaced it with a Google Group

This will make it easier for me to be more responsive and has better email support.

Join now at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/evidentia-software

I have also added a link in the About this Coummunity box.

Well it seems Evidentia will NOT be exhibiting at this years Southern California Genealogy Jamboree.

I just got a new 'day job' and I can't afford the time off in June.

Still on for NGS though!

It's not too late!  I still have room if you have a tip or a trick you would like to see included in our "30 Days of Tips and Tricks".  Just email me your suggestion.  I'll even promote your website when I cite you as the guest author!

Back it Up!

It has been an interesting experience integrating Evidentia with FamilySearch.  Rather than view the experience as 'here is a source, what does it claim' I have had to take a second look at everything as 'here is what someone on FamilySearch can claim, how can I allow Evidentia users to "Back it UP" with source analysis?'

It may sound the same, but there are subtle differences.  For instance, we are all familiar with the Birth event, but does that prove parentage?  Instinctively I create two claim types - one for "Birth" and another for 'Parent(s)'", but that didn't match anything in the GEDCOM.  Birth is an event with a time and place, who your parents are is a fact.  Same with Marriage/Spouse - I instinctively added Spouse as a claim type, but could I back it up?

Yes, I have learned.  As I work with FamilySearch I realized the event is one thing, but the "RELATIONSHIP" is separate - a fact not an event. The FACT is I am related to my parents, my spouse, my child, and that fact is related to but separate from an EVENT (Birth, Marriage, Birth of Child).

What does this mean?  Well first it means I am feeling good that I did something right. Second, and more important, it means I need to continue to work with the folks at FamilySearch to make sure there is a place to "Back it up" with a PROOF of these relationships separate from their spawning events.  Fortunately I have found the folks at FamilySearch to be easy to work with!

More on the integration with FamilySearch later, but if all goes well, there will be a free update to version 2.5 in your future!

One thing I do really like about Family Tree on Family Search is that you can add a source to a relationship.  I can use birth records that name the parents as a source for that parent-child relationship.  Ancestry and Family Tree Maker don't have the capability to attach anything (sources, media, notes, etc.) to relationships.  :(  And quite often it is the relationship that you want to prove!  Because relationships are one of the big proof items, naturally you made sure that Evidentia handles them.  ;)
