We rode an Eastern school bus today. The driver was nice and the bus was pretty clean but communication at this company was not very good. First, I telephoned to ask about seatbelts and child safety seats - I was hoping they could both give advice on the laws regarding use as well as their own policy. The operator was quite vague, suggesting child seats are a good idea but that they often seat young children three to a seat and that I should check with the school group. No clarity on the law or company policy. Second, our group had requested 2 buses and they only sent 1! So, we really did have to sit 3 (or 4) to a seat despite our planning for 2 to a seat. Third, the bus was late for our return pick-up. 15 minutes waiting by the side of the road with a lot of young children topped off the poor experience. Overall a bit disappointing.

Apparently the driver(s) feel they are above the law here in Medford. Parking in residential permit parking areas, well after the normal hours for buses to be picking up or dropping off children. Congesting the flow of traffic and blocking cars from being able to pull out. Police had to come down and announce over the intercom multiple times for the operator to come out and move the bus. When the driver finally decided to come out, they had the sped off in a slightly aggressive manner. Fortunately for the driver the police were busy dealing with another issue they came upon while here. Otherwise I am sure he would have been pulled over and sited. Now, two nights later what do we find if we look out to the street? Good Old bus 149 parked with their hazards on. Granted they leave, (eventually). I never realized that this company allows their high priced vehicles to be used by the drivers for the leisure and errands. Think the company needs to do something about this before they find their vehicles sitting in a tow yard. I wonder how much it is to tow and store a school bus over-night. Hmmmmmm, Come to think of it...I know someone who is going to be moving and needs to hire a truck. Maybe I should apply there and use their bus.
