Haven't heard that in centuries! Love it!. The howling of a coyote to an off pitch slide guitar

Excellent. Although, mind, I live in London, and we get "the news where you are" too, which suggests that the "where you are" and "where we are" isn't a matter of geography.

Absolutely right, Tim.There is geography and political geography. However, if you watch the BBC News online, the default 'news where you are' is - guess where? - London.

He talks about Bromley Council "having a laugh" and others have commented on the council, but I thought the A21 was a TfL road which meant there's nothing the council can do about it. Isn't that the case?

+CyclingMikey I though so -- the Bromley branch of LCC has a reasonable relationship with the LBB, and I like to think we'd have been pressing harder if we thought there was anything they could do.

Either way, your description of the problems with that cycle lane are spot on -- plus, whenever I go that way (it's my normal route into Bromley centre) there's a crowd at the bus stop that cyclists would struggle to get through. After trying it a couple of times I won't use that cycle lane. As a less skilled rider it feels terribly unsafe compared to the road.

FolkieOne: I'm surprised you've not had any complaints yet, considering Jansch wasn't English!

Absolutely packed on Sunday afternoon, and no wonder. Atmospheric traditional pub with a friendly welcome and excellent beer and food. I'll certainly be back, but next time I'll book.

Good sized portions of slightly better than average pub grub. Limited selection of beers, but the Old Speckled Hen was well kept. Friendly & helpful staff (my Chinese partner didn't know pork pie would be served cold, but they were happy to warm it up. We'll be back.

Wedding venues service and food can be a bit patchy, but this was excellent throughout.

Excellent food, at a fair price for the quality. Limited selection of cask ales, but the Breakspear Oxford Gold went down nicely. Pleasant ambience and friendly service mean that this is a pub I will return to if I'm ever in these parts again.

It's pretty big and has most of the high street stores that you'd expect. Unfortunately it doesn't have anything that you wouldn't expect, so there is none of the fun of stumbling across an interesting independent store that you can still get in some traditional town centres (and even in some malls, such as Sheffield's Meadowhall). But hey, it's big, it's pretty much weatherproof, it's probably got what you want if you want pretty conventional stuff. What you see is what you get.

I would have given it five stars, but my partner said only four. She's native Chinese, though, and is probably comparing it to somewhere in Hong Kong. I doubt there's anywhere to beat this in Portobello.

Came here based on good reviews and the cask marque. Only one hand-pulled ale on tap (Marston's EPA) and a really dull looking menu. Gave up waiting to be served (the staff couldn't cope even with a half-empty Monday night bar and were quarreling amongst themselves) so I moved on still hungry and thirsty.
