If the choice is between an adequate in-state tuition, or a quality but out-of-state tuition for undergraduate ~ what would you choose? Is paying out of state tuition just insane?  Or is higher education still about the best investment you can make?

I vote for college tour. I have a deep enmity of  rankings.  Finding the right undergraduate institution is like falling in love, and even the weirdest dating site does not believe in canonical ranking. Visit only those colleges you can afford. Here are some questions I asked my girls:What I like to do when I am sad is

Weather that cheers me up

Weather that depresses me

I would like to be closer to the:
beach, lake, mountains, skiing, forest, hiking, dramatic wilderness, theater, international community, museums, policy events, art events, engineering innovation, start-ups?

I would hate it if I could not:

I don’t want:

Places I kind of like are:

States I tend to like are:

States I would tend to avoid are:

I would like to go to:
the theater, the movies, art museum, rocks and roll concerts, camping, public policy speakers, media events,

An experience I hope to have in college is

The university community should be

A strong greek system is (positive negative deal-breaker)

What I am really looking for is a

Hope that helps ....

This is not surprising.  I have considered moving into the city from the suburbs, but such a move would cost me more than that in taxes and higher housing costs (never mind the real estate transaction costs and moving costs), so I have decided to stay put.

The food was horrible. Typical fried burgers and chicken nuggets. Nothing else. Small portions. No non-meat option (no pizza). And yet still expensive price. Seats were teeny bleacher seats where your knees are in the guy in front of you's back - and the person behind you is constantly hitting you. They dont even have aisles, so to get up and down the bleachers you have to plow through the crowd. Kids and senior citizens were tripping all over the place, banging their shins. Absolutely none of the craziness typical of minor league games. Ooooooh, a picking up garbage race.... with real garbage. Please. And it will take you forever to get out of the parking lot.
