Have you tried a Yin class yet? Join Tonia for this stress-reducing class. You will spend the hour either seated or lying down using a number of props (bolsters, blankets, etc.) to support your body. Poses are held for 3-5 minutes at a time, lengthening the muscles and safely stretching the ligaments and joints. We have a limited number of props, so please bring your own if you have them.

In preparation of the Love Your Body series starting April 6, 2016 at Om Base, we offer this free class to give you a taste of what to expect.

In the spirit of challenging the paradigm in which no body is ever good enough, this class offers an opportunity to reconsider personal and social myths about beauty, and redefine narratives about our bodies. In a culture that profits from self-doubt, one of the most revolutionary things you can do on an individual level is love yourself just the way you are.

These classes encourage the use of props, provides dim lighting, and calm music. All Omies are welcome to come, regardless of shape, size, or gender.

Niyama #3: Tapas (heat). "Tapas refers to the heat we generate to burn through impurities on a physical and mental level. In our asana practice, ujjayi breath and vinyasa build heat that cleanses and purifies our body from the inside out. We know that our body makes fever in order to burn up sickness and that very hot water cleans our clothes and dishes better than cold or lukewarm and that heat helps melt built-up fascia that can be causing us physical discomfort or lack of mobility. The heat generated in our asana practice is literally cleansing in this way."
