Can Layered SOA diagrams die now? I've been staring that incompetent over-simplification in the face for 10+ years.

This presentation is also pretty clear, once you get past the first 20 slides or so. http://www.slideshare.net/jeppec/soa-and-event-driven-architecture-soa-20  I have been saying over and over that silos are good things, as long as they have service interface.

Of course, that all falls apart when it takes 18 months to get a development environment and the lag time on getting a fully configured server connected to the network can break the 3 year mark

I'm really interested in this. I plan on starting a side project using docker just to try it out.

Federal CIOs, do you get it? Stop consolidating things into mega projects, and grow what works.

Yeah, the cloud will fix it. Hopefully it makes it harder for projects to order hundreds of servers before writing a line of code. Of course, the cloud project themselves...tend to order hundreds of servers before they have any customers, and then by the time they get some they have three year old hardware.

It's nice when your grad school research topic becomes cool again. Kind of like old clothes coming back into style.
