Always love Fowler's ability to coin new terms...is your data lake a data swamp?
A Data Lake is a store that hold raw data as a source for data scientists to explore ways to gain information. It should not be accessed by end-users or used for system integration.

Billboard that changes from showing illegal goods when its vision spots a cop
..
Ban on imported Italian food? No problem! Don Giulio Salumeria got an ad company to rig billboards with facial recognition that spots Russian police uniforms.

Tell me about it...start scalable, not scaled.

The first reason for this is classic Yagni. When you begin a new application, how sure are you that it will be useful to your users? It may be hard to scale a poorly designed but successful software system, but that's still a better place to be than its inverse.
Going directly to a microservices architecture is risky, so consider building a monolithic system first. Split to microservices when, and if, you need it.

Haven't read yet, but looks like a good approach.

Amazing...
The intelligence community must find a way to work with the private sector, or it risks falling dangerously behind in the key technologies that are reshaping society.

Flexbox solves so many of the problems with CSS...
A showcase of problems once hard or impossible to solve with CSS alone, now made trivially easy with Flexbox.

Interesting interview with Andrew Ng.

"One of the biggest levers on your own life is your ability to form useful habits. When I talk to researchers, when I talk to people wanting to engage in entrepreneurship, I tell them that if you read research papers consistently, if you seriously study half a dozen papers a week and you do that for two years, after those two years you will have learned a lot. This is a fantastic investment in your own long term development. But that sort of investment, if you spend a whole Saturday studying rather than watching TV, there's no one there to pat you on the back or tell you you did a good job. Chances are what you learned studying all Saturday won't make you that much better at your job the following Monday. There are very few, almost no short-term rewards for these things. But it's a fantastic long-term investment. This is really how you become a great researcher, you have to read a lot."

But you have to do something more than read too...

Not much seating, not as many sides as Centreville location, and it takes a while for chicken to cook, but the taste is amazing.

Food is okay to good. Went there once when they had a private party going on in another room. After one hour of waiting for food, I complained. The manager accused me of lying about the length of the wait, and she acted like I wanted a free dessert. I said "the food will be here in 5 minutes or I am leaving, I don't have time for dessert." Will never go again.
