The opioid abuse crisis in America has reached epidemic proportions. Unscrupulous doctors are prescribing dangerous pain killers in record numbers, and with little regard to the health and well-being of their patients.

According to the CDC, the number of opioids doctors are prescribing has quadrupled since 1999, as have the number of overdose deaths. This quiet epidemic has completely swept our nation, but lawmakers and regulatory bodies are finally starting to pay attention.

The Window Covering Manufacturers Association is currently working towards a safety standard for manufacturers to go cordless, or even have inaccessible cords. The standard should be finalized by the end of December, and all companies are expected to be in compliance by the end of 2018.

Orlinte Cruz, 40, the owner of a Dallas trucking company, was charged with honest services wire fraud on Nov. 16 for allegedly bribing a former Texas Department of Public Safety sergeant, Kevin Gerard Cauley, to sidestep truck inspections, court records show.

Cruz paid Cauley at least $20,000 so his fleet would pass state inspection, according to the charging documents.
