Glad to see Rod Dreher pick up my report on the Ford / Arcus foundation collaboration. $3 million has been spent in the first years of the strategy to erode religious freedom of the foundations' opponents. How much more is on the way?

Ford and Arcus foundations spending over $3 million to fight religious freedom laws in the U.S.

Questions are being raised over two U.S. foundations that have poured more than three million dollars into abortion rights, LGBT activist, and legal groups to push the message that exemptions based on religious beliefs are “un-American” and an abuse of liberty. #ReligiousFreedom #Catholic #Arcus

Another Iraqi refugee family I met in Iraq. Wonderful people, may God grant them a good home in a new country very soon!

“No, we will never go back,” Taif Hanna, an engineer from Mosul, told reporters in Amman Oct. 28. “ISIS tried to kill us,” he said. The militant group offered three choices: conversion to Islam, payment of an extortionate tax, or death. “So we all fled Iraq,” Taif said. #Iraq #ISIS #ISIL #IS #Christian #SaveMEChristians
Christians lived in Iraq for nearly two thousand years, but the violent rise of the Islamic State has convinced many Christian refugees they must forever leave their homeland.

Deeply privileged to have visited refugees in Jordan and Lebanon as part of CRS' Egan Fellow program. More to come, here's a short review:
Catholic Relief Services' Egan Journalism Fellows traveled to Jordan and Lebanon, where they met with refugees from Iraq and Syria and saw firsthand how Catholic Relief Services, Caritas and the Church are providing emergency support to refugee families.

Watching #TheThirdWay is deeply helpful for someone like me on the culture wars' traditionalist side. #Catholic

After hearing so many questionable lectures about respecting activists manifestly hostile to the good and the true, it's a relief to hear from people with same-sex attraction who merit unqualified respect and consideration. See especially the story of a man who found an understanding priest in the confessional.

At the same time, mainstream US Catholicism is presently far more hostile towards open traditionalists than towards those in Courage groups. Contemporary Catholics are eager to censure others for bigotry, while largely ignoring what were once "offenses against public morals."
Catholics with same-sex attraction talk about their personal struggles and the comfort they find in Church teaching in a new documentary that shows Christian love as the “third way” in controversies about homosexuality.

The US only declared Boko Haram a terrorist group in November 2013 after long lobbying from Christian and human rights groups. Nina Shea claims that the US gave funding to the neighborhoods that fed Boko Haram.
The Boko Haram kidnapping of hundreds of Nigerian schoolgirls follows years of “ineffective” U.S. policy and analysis that ignored the Islamist extremists’ motives, one critic says.

House of Cards on the Bay? One of the leading PR firms has been hired to attack Archbishop Cordileone's policy for Catholic high schools.

Sam Singer’s public relations firm spun a Chevron oil refinery disaster in California and fought back a legal ruling in Ecuador that could have awarded billions of dollars to indigenous people for the company’s alleged pollution damage to the Amazon. #SF #SanFran #Catholic #Education

A disturbing spending pattern to legal groups, activist groups and universities to rally opposition to religious freedom accommodations. #politics #Catholic

Tim Gill, one of the savviest political donors and LGBT activists in America today, backed a self-described Catholic group the same year it turned against Catholic defense of marriage efforts.

“I would say it is very obvious that Mr. Gill does not agree with the Catholic Church and Her teachings on the issues of homosexuality and marriage,” Jennifer Kraska, executive director of the Colorado Catholic Conference, told CNA May 29. #Catholic #CatholicsUnited #Denver #Marriage
The Catholics United Education Fund, a Democrat-leaning advocacy group which began criticizing Catholic opposition to same-sex “marriage” in 2012, received almost all of its operational budget that year from a gay activist foundation run by influential multi-millionaire Tim Gill.

Good news from Harvard!

Harvard senior Aurora Griffin told CNA that she presented university president Drew Faust with petitions against the event that had garnered more than 60,000 signatures.

In her cover letter, Griffin explained that the event does not promote an appreciation for cultural understanding, but instead ”promotes contempt for the Catholic faith,” adding that “supporters of genuine tolerance and  civility are rightly offended and outraged that Harvard has permitted such an event.” #Catholic
A satanic black mass re-enactment being planned by a student group at Harvard University has been ‘postponed indefinitely’ and will not take place May 12.

Controversy continues in #Colorado as the legislature considers the bill.

The Archbishop of Denver on April 15 rallied opposition to a Colorado bill he says is “both extreme and dangerously ambiguous” in its ban on all abortion regulations and other pro-life laws. #COleg #Denver #SB175 #Catholic
