This is a nice, easy, simple and quick place to get food. From the decor, we weren't exactly sure what to expect but I have to admit the food was much much better than we had presumed. For someone wanting a quick lunch this is perfect - also has a pretty good view of the bay.

Port Washington is known for it's vast variety and number of wonderful restaurants. Unfortunately there are few choices for Greek or Mediterranean cuisine. There is a cluster of three 3 restaurants in close proximity, all under the same ownership. Ayhan's has it's own little monopoly. And this is a shame. Ayhan's has a nice ambiance but it's not enough to distract this reviewer from poor service and inadequate food at high prices. Ayhan's comes up short in so many ways. For example, I asked if they had Retsina (Greek wine). What they brought me was not Retsina but more like a Chardonnay, and the waiter admitted that they actually do not serve Retsina. Good rule of thumb: don't lie to your customers. I ordered the chicken kebab sandwich (souvlaki) which costs $9.50. Much to my disappointment, it contained three small chunks of over-cooked chicken, three small mushrooms and heaps of shredded iceberg lettuce with small shards of carrot on top, resembling the store bought pre-shredded bagged variety.. The restaurant manager was sent to our table and told me quite flatly that "that's what you get. Three pieces of chicken in our sandwich" without an apology or some sort of remedy, and walked away. My friend's meals were of small portions as well with mediocre quality. The moussaka, the steak, the spinach pie, the "chocolate baklava" and the service, not to mention the management all come up short. Across the street is "Ayhan's Fish Kebab" . The prices there are higher. Service and food are again not worth the price. The third establishment is more deli-style, is very large and impressive from the outside, and has nice views. This location would have made more sense for an actual sit-down restaurant. People, if you must have Greek food, don't look for it in Port Washington. If there is anybody out there who is looking for a place to open up a Greek restaurant, Port Washington would be an excellent choice. The competition may appear large from a distance, but the overall theme at Ayhan's is definitely petite. This town needs a good Greek restaurants run by compassionate people who take pride in their cooking and are goal oriented when it comes to pleasing their customers. It needs to drastically overcome its shortcomings.
