At tonight's Board of Commissioners meeting, we adopted resolutions honoring numerous people who have selflessly volunteered their time to make Brunswick County a better place.  In many cases, volunteers and private organizations can meet important needs more effectively and efficiently than any governmental agency.  Additionally, every need met by volunteers and private organizations is one that doesn't fall on the backs of the taxpayers.  As both a Brunswick County Commissioner and a member of the N.C. Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service, I congratulate and thank the hard-working volunteers who were recognized tonight.  In the next day or so I hope to post a complete list of those recognized.

In Oak Island for a meet-and-greet for US Senate candidate Thom Tillis. I have previously attended similar events for both Mark Harris and Greg Brannon. I appreciate the candidates visiting Brunswick County and am glad to welcome them to our great corner of the state.

I was interviewed by WWAY after Victaulic's announcement that it will be cutting jobs at its Leland location.  In the interview, I emphasized that we must be continually vigilant in recruiting new companies to Brunswick County, as well as maintaining good relationships with those who are already here.  In business, smart salespeople are always prospecting to develop new clients, but also pay attention to the relationship with their existing clients.  Our economic development team works hard to ensure that business prospects know about Brunswick County, and they also visit and work with our existing industries.  Additionally, Brunswick Community College offers programs to help displaced workers refine their skills.  In addition, the local office of the NC Division of Employment Security is available to help displaced workers.
