I feel pretty fortunate to have had Keith Basso as a teacher at New Mexico. I found him tough, blunt, fair. I think I am a better anthropologist for his instruction and interest.

Prepping my favorite Anthropology of Religion lecture: altered states of consciousness and shamanism. Lecture includes a screening of Holy Ghost People.  HGP provokes more useful and challenging discussion than any other film in any other class.  I blogged about the challenges of teaching with HGP years ago:
