HINTS OF HISTORY GATHERING, 6TH | 7TH JULY

With our Hints of History Gathering Festival just around the corner we are making preparations to bring you the best family fun filled weekend of our calendar year. With a hunt in the maze to find our mystery character, to music sessions, award winning tours, adventures in the playground, fun games on the lawn, a medieval battle, talks, storytelling, champion lilting and laughter we are getting so excited and we would love if you can join us to share this historic and fun filled event.

From History to Mystery...
Our Treasure Hunt in the maze.
As you know Russborough is full of History and Heritage and learning about our guests over the decades can be fun! Each day for our Hints of History Festival Weekend Special we have a mystery guest hidden in a jar in the center of the maze on 6th and 7th of July - we also have clues to our guest as it leads you to the center. Each day our mystery guest will be different. If you can find out who the mystery guest is and you have your hints of history ticket then you can enter our draw for prizes each day at Reception. The prize for the draw is 5pm at reception so come and join us for fun. While you learn about the people who have graced the halls of Russborough over the decades we will bring you laughter and fun as you find your way to the center of our famous maze!

Historic Craft Demos in the Yards.
Our Artisans share their secrets..

One of the things we love about Russborough is the endless creative energy of our artisans in their craft courtyards. To make the Hints of History a little more special each of them are bringing a historic twist to their creative gifts. Evelyn will be exploring the tradition of tweed in her weaving studio on Sunday with guest local spinner
Eleanor Sutherland will be making her spinning appearance on Saturday 6th. Blacksmith Michael has created his own historic tramell candleholder and will be sharing his demo on Saturday and Sunday at 1.30pm. Gunvor is hosting a knife making course (sold out) but you can find out about future course with them over the weekend. Ceramicist Eleanor is sharing her own creations with influences from the famous La Franchini Ceilings and candle maker Karen is exploring the tapered more historic Beeswax candle. Woodturner Herve will have his wonderful smile and will be sharing his creative spirit with wood from local and historic trees at Russborough and if you make it to their studio you have to check out Eamonn's unusual artistic sculptors, they are truely magnificent. Blacksmiths Michael and Gunvor demo is at 1.30pm both Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th.
All Other Demos are Ongoing over the Hints of History Weekend.

Story Telling, Music sessions and more.
A range of talks, music, battles and games..

We want to share the History and stories of Russborough with you but also include some history from the local area so you can go home a little wiser. You can also choose from a range of musical performances so while the kids are finding mystery guests in the maze and swinging and swaying on the slides and crocodile sea-saws in the playground you can swing and sway along to the traditional music in the West Wing from 3pm, or enjoy some old folk songs in the West Colonnade at 4pm or hear a taster of a few arias at 12.30pm on Saturday 6th. Why not listen to a talk on life in the 19th Century at Russborough with local historian and author Seamus O' Maitiu at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday or learn about the people who have lived in Russborough over the centuries by enjoying an award winning tour. We also have the Lancia Motor Group arriving from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday 6th with cars from the 1920s to the 1960s to view and admire. You might simply want to enjoy a tasty BBQ overlooking some of the most stunning views in Ireland while the children play in the playground and maze. Whatever your choice we want you to relax and enjoy a mix of a little light hearted learning with a lot of pleasure at Russborough at our Hints of History Gathering Festival, 2013. Tickets are available today from €17.50 adults and €10 for children including a tasty BBQ (Pearl Ticket). If you would like to include an award winning tour tickets are available from €25 and children for €15. (Jewel Ticket) Call 045-865 239 to book your ticket today.

Congratulations to Lorna Gormley who won tickets to attend the Hints of History Gathering Festival on July 6th and 7th. Thanks so much to all our entries, we really enjoyed reading about why you want to join us for our Historic Weekend and we hope we can see you there. We drew the names yesterday, Monday 17th June and we loved the reason why Lorna wants to join us. Her performance of choice is Welsh soprano, Chloe Morgan who will be singing at 12.30pm on Saturday 6th July in the West Colonnade.

"What better way to relax? A wonderful opportunity to enjoy a range of opera arias in a beautiful setting: rural & relaxing  yet majestic and atmospheric. The blend of music, fresh air and stunning backdrop will  be unique." Lorna Gormley.

Thanks Lorna, we couldn't have put it better ourselves! We look forward to welcoming you and some friends to Russborough on July 6th and 7th. Keep an eye on your post and to all our entries huge thanks we just loved all the responses and they have given us encouragement as we continue to work hard to bring you an enjoyable fun, filled weekend on July 6th and 7th.
