Breaking News Ireland is famous for many things and the band U2 is up there with some of the the most iconic.

Over the past 12 months, after a chance meeting on a long haul flight, JCI Ireland are delighted to announce that lead singer of U2, Bono, has agreed to donate his share of the band's profits to JCI Ireland from the next album sale.

The flight to America, which happened on this date last year (a very important date) placed a JCI Ireland member sitting beside Bono on the plane. After some pleasantries, Bono got straight to the point and asked this unnamed member what was she most proud of in her life. A deep question for many.

She immediately said her involved in JCI and how it had changed her life for the better.

She explained how through the 4 areas of opportunity (Individual Development, Community Involvement, Business Networking and International Travel) she had transformed into the confident young leader and had influenced change in her local community to make it a better place to work, live and socialise.

Bono, fascinated with her explanation, has decided to generously donate his share of the profits to JCI Ireland because as he has stated "if by assisting JCI Ireland through this donation, I can help just one more young Irish person become a more active member of society, Ireland and the world will become a better place".

2016 JCI Ireland President Brian Smyth has thanked Bono sincerely and mentioned "we have a number of initiatives that the funds will help support and we feel this announcement will place a fantastic spotlight on our amazing organisation. JCI Ireland aims to be the organisation that unites all sectors of society to create positive change".

Further details and an official ceremony with Bono will be announced shortly. If you are interested in attending, it will be members only, please contact your local JCI Ireland branch around the country.

Happy United Nations Day! JCI is the only NGO permitted to use the UN globe in its logo, after an agreement made in 1954. JCI supports the UN Millennium goals. Our biggest UN project is supporting the Nothing but Nets campaign in the fight again malaria. The campaign raises awareness and much needed funds to provide treated bed nets for sub-Saharan Africa. JCI is 100 years old this year and the UN is 70 years old this year.
