If you’ve got children, then you’ll know that summer half term is just around the corner! In many schools in the UK, the half-term break will coincide with the bank-holiday weekend at the end of May, making it the ideal time to take a few days off work and get away as a family.

Christchurch is packed full of things to see and do, making it the perfect spot to bring little ones with never-ending energy reserves and boundless enthusiasm. We know it can be tricky to fill every day during the holidays, which is why Dorset is a great choice for your getaway. Here’s what’s on during the holidays.

We don’t think it’s too much of an overstatement to say that Dorset is one of the most romantic places in the United Kingdom (if not the world). We may be a little biased, but its beauty is unparalleled and it really does have something for just about anyone and everyone.

With that in mind, we’re certain that you should consider Christchurch as your Valentine’s weekend destination. If you’re thinking about it, or if you’re planning your weekend here already, then this is what we think you should put on your itinerary.

We know that when it gets to this time of the year it can be tempting to spend all of your spare time indoors, wrapped up in your cosiest oversized knitwear, sipping on hot chocolates and watching an abundance of Christmas films.

Don’t get us wrong, there’s certainly nothing wrong with that scene! However, we think we can persuade you to get outdoors during winter. To give you the little extra nudge that you might need, we’ve put together a guide to some of our favourite beach walks in the Christchurch area. http://www.christchurch-harbour-hotel.co.uk/news/exploring-dorset-winter-beach-walks/

One of the main reasons that people choose to visit Christchurch is to explore the beautiful coastline and take in the stunning views that the town has to offer. However, did you know that Christchurch also has a thriving cultural scene?

When you’re planning your trip here, don’t just map out which walks you’re going to be taking – read our guide to what’s going on in Christchurch’s art and cultural scene and pencil a couple of these events into your schedule. http://www.christchurch-harbour-hotel.co.uk/news/art-and-culture-in-christchurch/ #art   #culture   #christchurch   #dorset   #christchurchharbourhotel

Bournemouth is less than a 20-minute drive away from Christchurch – if you’re feeling particularly active, you can even walk it in under two hours (or cycle in 30 minutes!) and get the speedy train back. If you’re visiting Christchurch, then it’s an excellent place to plan to spend a day or two during your trip.

To help you plan a cultural day in Bournemouth, we’ve put together a quick guide to the museums and galleries you’ll find when you’re here. We promise that even the kids will love our choices – they’re so good that the kids won’t even know they’re educational!

New Year in the city can, of course, be great. Some people love the hustle and bustle of a busy city centre for the countdown, and don’t mind paying that little bit extra to secure a spot in their favourite local.

However, for those of us who don’t thrive in packed crowds, there is another (more appealing, we would argue) option for New Year. Pack your weekend bag and get away to Christchurch for the celebrations. Here’s what you can expect when you get here.

We don’t know about you, but over the past week or so we’ve noticed a definite festive feeling. It’s a combination of the dark nights and colder weather, making us feel like it’s time to break out our festive jumpers and sip on hot chocolates.

Whatever the reason, we’re getting excited for Christmas in Christchurch. If you’re thinking of planning a visit to our charming little town over the season, we’ve taken some of the stress out of planning by compiling a little guide to some of our favourite events going on.

Really relaxing 2 night stay with very friendly staff, good food, and clean, quiet rooms. Enjoyed the spa experience with a great, relaxing massage. Would recommend a visit to friends as the surrounding area is also good to walk around.

Stopped for a quick lunch on Friday. Food was great as was the service too. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has stunning views over the bay. Would definitely return next time we're in the area

We recently visited the hotel for a short break to celebrate our mini-moon. Whilst I loved the decor and The Upper Deck restaurant we felt this was the only best bit about the stay. I empathise with the comments shared from a previous reviewer. The car park is small for the number of guests - however we turned up in a Evoque and were given a space, whilst others had to circle and double park. We were told the room would be ready at 3pm. We walked around the grounds and returned at 3pm and was still told that the room was not ready. The hotel provided us with Drinks as a gesture of good-will. We had a Garden Room View Room - all I can say is that the 'Garden View' overlooks an outside event catering space of the hotel so what Garden View means I am not too sure. If there had been a wedding/party then I am sure this would have been used. There is a choice of two restaurants - The Upper-Deck and The Jetty. The Upper-deck is well laid out and staff attended to our every need. The Jetty was okay; however the service slow and poorly planned out tables outside. If you sit on the sun loungers on the lower-deck you will need to order from the bar as there is no waiter/waitress service - it's a shame as this could provide an additional revenue stream for the hotel. All in all an okay hotel which relies heavily on its location rather than the service.

Perfect location as it looks out to sea, everything was a clean and staff were very polite and professional. Although we went to have a look at the venue for a choice of wedding, the food looked and smelt amazing.

First of all lets get what they do right out of the way. • The hotel is in a good location • The physical building is nice. • The front deck clerks are nice • There is nothing bad to say about the rooms • They are small and clean but so are many in this area. • The gym and spa areas are also very nice. So there are three scenarios which make you love this place: 1. You already know your way around this hotel 2. You are the kind of person that likes to figure everything out without needed any help or service. 3. You are one of the 3 weddings doing on almost all the time in which case your stay here will be very brief If however you would like true service and are not part of a wedding - well you are on your own ... Lets start with Parking: Right away when you pull up to the front door the bellman is confused as to what to do with you. There is almost 2 times more cars that spaces and always at least 1-2 weddings going on so parking is close to impossible. This results in people parked anywhere blocking everyone in making it impossible to get in and out. You are told to drive around and look for spaces yourself. Remember this feeling because you’ll see it again very soon. Checking into your room works and the location of facilities: You get a key and a voucher for charges. No one explains to you needed to put the key in the wall for all the lights to work or where anything in the hotel is. There is no map given and you have to walk around and figure it all out on your own. Where is the gym? Go look for it. How do I find the pool? Go look for it. Is their room service? You’ll have to guess (although the third day I did get a room service menu). What else don’t you know? It’s all a mystery. Terrible Resturaunt and bar service: So this is where it gets very personal. After a 11 hour flight and spending all day at a very sad funeral, I arrived at the restaurant 10 minutes after they closed, and was ignored entirely even when tried to wave someone down. They seemed highly annoyed I would dare ask for help because I was interrupting their receipt counting. A customer hearing this plea for help suggested room service but the night manager they told me I could only order sandwiches, but then I was told none of those can actually be made so I should just drive out to KFC or indian take away instead. I again pleaded I needed a solution as a paying guest here for a week who flew 11 hours and just got back from a long day involving a funeral and that I did not stay in a 4 star hotel to eat KFC! He said thats all I can suggest and got back to looking at his screen. The was the same attitude from the servers, bartenders and night manager. THEN next morning after this happened — it happened again! I showed up at the restaurant 5 minutes before it opened. They told me I could not come in and to stand there, while they finished a personal conversation even though the restaurant was already set up. I sat down anyway being twice confronted with this attitude in less that 12 hours. This clearly did not make them happy. The fact that EVERYONE involved acted with the exact same cold indifference - speaks VERY strongly to the TRUE culture here and how they REALLY regard their guests.  It was clear they have no problem punishing a guest if they break one of their "rules" (such as arriving in the restaurant a few minutes late or early). What is remarkable is they ALL act the same way. This is horrendous experience for a guest because I mistakenly trusted that this place of all the other places I could have stayed would not abandon it's guests. I trusted this hotel to help and was in a vulnerable position and this hotel had no problem sending me out on my own into an unfamiliar town late at night in the cold rather than make the slightest bit of effort.

Came here years ago for a friend's wedding, had a great day. Came back for a drink and a sit out on the terrace, to enjoy the view and have a coffee when passing through. Nice staff and a great setting.
