This white oak tree is considered by many as a “wolf” tree due its short trunk and numerous limbs that make this tree invaluable for lumber. This tree does have wildlife value due to the numerous acorns it will produce. Depending on the landowner’s forest management goals this tree can be girdled and killed in order to let vigorous new growth start, or it can be left for the wildlife and people to enjoy.

Black cherry (Prunus serotina) is a fast growing and short lived species. Its form is usually tall, straight, and free of many defects making good knot-free lumber. The areas of New York and Pennsylvania are known to have the best quality cherry with the least amount of gum, but our cherry here still produces a great product.

At Tri-State Timber our loggers use directional felling to avoid damaging the residual trees left after the harvest.
