This is an example of how good conservation work can bring species back from the brink, with the number in the wild growing from around 200 to over 1,000 in 30 years.
The golden lion tamarin is also a national symbol in Brazil, chosen by a public vote – suggested by WWF – to appear on the Brazilian 20 Reais note. This small monkey is still on the list of endangered species though... One of its greatest threats is habitat loss, so there is plenty more to do!
