Shocking that some media (and others) continue to treat (and judge) women differently. As Free Press columnist Tom Walsh asked: "Would he (Lauer) ever contemplate asking Alan Mulally at Ford, or Sergio Marchionne at FiatChrysler, if they could be a good CEO and a good parent at the same time?"

In the decade ahead, those companies that invest in initiatives that help people and the planet as well as their bottom line and who can communicate those efforts effectively will have a competitive edge.

Why talk when we can text? For many, our phones are a habit — a bad one — and only a small number of us realize it. Our voices are a way to express and define ourselves; a text message can't do that.

Duffy regards the Washington Post‘s Watergate coverage (1972-1974) by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward as the watershed moment for anonymous reporting. But, weren't Woodward and Bernstein also required to back their anonymous source's information with two confirmations?
Anonymous sourcing reduces the pressure on official sources to take responsibility for their utterances. And it promotes the gaming of news outlets, with anonymous sources gravitating to the most pliant reporters and editors. Neither is good for the news.

Introduction

I have enjoyed a diverse career in public relations and marketing working with Michigan's leading agencies and some of the world's most recognized brands.

In September 2013 after many years working for others, I followed my dream of business ownership and founded a full-service integrated marketing communications firm, Gayle Joseph Group.

Previously, as a member of the leadership team at Grand Rapids-based Lambert, Edwards & Associates (LE&A), I was responsible for operations of our Detroit office, as well as business growth throughout the US. I also lead the firm's automotive practice.

Before joining LE&A, I was a vice president at Airfoil Public Relations leading the entire range of the agency’s work for the the third largest company in the world, Microsoft Corporation. My work for Microsoft included developing strategies for programs and overseeing implementation of public relations activities – including product, issue and solution-centric campaigns – across the United States.

In addition to Microsoft, I have worked with a number of other global brands including Sprint, General Motors, General Electric, Starbucks, Kmart, The Home Depot, and Guardian Industries, as well as regional and Michigan-based organizations, including The Taubman Companies, St. John Health, the Detroit Medical Center and Walsh College.
