Bathing Bears
It is summertime. We and our pups play in the fields, enjoying nature's beauty. Even the Columbines next our house (planted by me, the one with black thumb) are blooming! Summer is in full swing. Consequently, the bears are going about their lives in the fo...
Summer is in full swing. Consequently, the bears are going about their lives in the forests near us. It's been warm lately so the few pools of water have become more popular. A young female bear took a bath in a pool with breaks to mark a nearby bear tree. She has a "mohawk" fur pattern so I ...

Sunset Sunday
The days of afternoon thunderstorms sometimes bring gorgeous sunsets. That's happened a few times recently. Last night's sunset featured unique cloud formations on the western horizon. When the setting sun paints the eastern sky in brilliant colors, it's a ...

Of Moose, Lions, and Flowers
Today dawned stormy, right from the start. The mountains disappeared behind the clouds. Shyla and I took an easy mountain bike ride. I badly tweaked my neck/shoulder recently, and I've been trying to let it heal. I think it's improving... but sometimes the ...
Shyla and I took an easy mountain bike ride. I badly tweaked my neck/shoulder recently, and I've been trying to let it heal. I think it's improving... but sometimes the side-effects of my spinal problems feel endless. During our ride, on a trail that I have no qualms about taking Shyla on, ...

Springtime New Life
The flowers are indescribably lush. Shyla is barely taller than some of the Golden Banner flowers. She forged her way through on parts of our morning mountain bike ride. And the blooming Columbines are incredible, blooming beneath the canopy of an aspen gro...

Happy Solstice!
Summer solstice is wonderful - the days are so long and luxurious. The air smells sweet from all the blooming flowers. We took a sunset hike last night, and I captured a glowing Shyla, sitting in front of a wild blooming shrub, just before the sun dipped be...

Wildflower Friday
Our world is bursting with wildflowers so I thought that I'd join Dory with a Flower Friday post . Of course, many of the photos include a chocolate Lab too! On the peak near us called Hug Hill, the orange Wallflowers are in full bloom with the snowy mounta...

Summer's Bounty
The yellow flowers, a meadow species of Arnica, continue to astound me. I've never seen so many bloom for so long. A few are starting to wilt so I know that this phase of summer paradise will pass before too long. For now, I'll keep soaking it up! Shyla ado...

The Black Dog

A Life in the Balance
We live in such a bountiful and beautiful area that I am awed by it daily. If you know the area, the open space is plentiful. Fields of flowers can be enjoyed in solitude. With the open space comes wildlife. I love the wildlife, and I strive to coexist peac...
With the open space comes wildlife. I love the wildlife, and I strive to coexist peacefully with them. I try to learn as much as I can about each species to help me be a better steward for the wildlife. Through my trail cameras, I even "get to know" individual animals, like Tiny the Black Bear.

Summer Eve
Another day in paradise... with a new bike! I traded in last year's bike to get this one, a 29" wheeled mountain bike that is fits me perfectly and climbs like a dream! As you may see from her body language in the photo above, Shyla is still afraid of bikes...
As you may see from her body language in the photo above, Shyla is still afraid of bikes. It's quite odd because she's been around bikes so much. She's not afraid of my bike when I'm riding it or standing over it. But, she's afraid of it when it's by itself. So, when I called her to come to me ...

Tagline
I'm avid outdoors person. I love observing nature and playing with my Labs out in the forest.
Introduction
I live at 8200' in the Front Range of Colorado. I love exploring nature in the mountains while riding my mountain bike and romping with my two Labradors. Photography is another passion, including both "normal" photography and trail camera photography of wildlife.

My two dogs are Shyla, a 3-year-old Chocolate Lab, and R, a 7-year-old Black Lab.

I have a blog where I describe my adventures and share my photography: "Romping and Rolling in the Rockies".

You can reach me at kynabear5 at gmail.
Bragging rights
I love tracking mountain lions and bears.
