I wonder if your (parent?) organization will also consider simply protesting measures to hinder access in the wired part of the world. Hungary just proposed a whopping 60¢ per GB tax on Internet use. All this in a country with a fledging startup scene but low broadband connectivity, the lowest mobile internet penetration in the EU, and huge swathes of the population (living in abject poverty) having no access at all.

Hi, I was hoping to hold a HOA marathon for my wife's 30th birthday with friends and family calling in from all around the world, recorded and broadcast with HOA. However, I cannot find the option to know the URL for the hangout (or the YouTube video) before actually starting the thing. So how could I send friends an invite (and a Google Spreadsheet to sign up for slots, as there will be more than 9, many more)? I cannot send her grandma the link only when we're already online and on air…

I might try to create a G+ Event and send the link out for that. Hopefully she gets no automatic notifications of my G+ events. Can HOAs be associated with the link, anyway, or only Hangout Parties? Or I just update the event once we started? And will the guests find the HOA easily from the Event? I don't want to spend her birthday with tech support for dozens of relatives. Sadly, I cannot try the setup without her seeing on G+ that something is going on…

Btw, I have smaller questions too:
1. Is there a way to make sure my wife sees no notification for my HOA or event (public/"on air") scheduled? (Which I guess I need to do to have a URL.)
2. Can I make it her HOA in any way? Probably not, right, how could I just pass on a HOA to a third party?
3. Four or five hours of live video could justify the cost of a headset or a mic if the audio quality is really so much better. Google says it is "dramatically" better. We have 13" MacBook Pros (not Retina, no stereo mics). Can I expect much from upgrading? Any recommendations? Any thoughts on the Blue Nessie (as long-term investment)? Waaay overkill for VoIP?
4. The "Make this an event on air" Advanced Event option is grey/unavailable for me (at creation, I know you cannot switch on later). Is this a problem? Or is a public event just as good for my purpose?
5. If I send out the invitation via G+ itself, it will have the slick design, but only in my language, correct? If a user gets it, the fields won't be translated into her own GMail or G+ language? (Of course, my description cannot be translated, but the time, some explanation, e.g.)

Thanks a lot!

1. Is a HOA longer than 2 hours OK? (Not for YouTube straight away, I understand.)

Thanks!

Hungarians, Americans, everyone, it's time for some activism before our beloved governments meet to regulate us online.

Policy is a different matter. But Americans still don't get how unusually lucky they are with this guy.
