I went to a Boat safety and tips class today, and felt that the instructor Ken was very knowledgeable, and professional. The class was excellent and I would recommend it to anyway that wants to learn more about boats and safety. It was free, and he still handed out literature, and answered every question I had. Ken seemed like a very honest, and caring individual that I will do business with in the future!!! He also seemed very knowledgeable about the local lakes, rivers, and streams in Rochester and the fish in these waterways!!!

I took my family there at the end of summer. We had a great time!!! The kids can't wait to do this again next year. We just found a new family tradition. The boat ran great, the weather was perfect, and the kids had a blast!!!!!

I have rented boats before from other marinas and this was absolutely the most unprofessional discourteous place I have ever been. The pontoon boat was in poor condition with ripped seat cushions and missing gauges and controls. Of course, the worst part of it all is that they didn't put any gas in the tank. After waiting more than a half hour in line to fill out the paper work, we were already 20 minutes past our starting time for the rental. The young boy that took us to the boat was chewing tobacco and spitting it into the water. He didn't give us any instructions on the operation of the boat and when I asked about putting the awning up, he said we could do it if we wanted, but never offered to help. Once we were finally out in the bay the gas ran out after only 15 minutes leaving us stranded in the middle of the bay. We called the Bayside office to ask for help and no one answered the phone. We left numerous messages and asked for someone to call back and/or come and rescue us but there was no response. After a half an hour of being stranded with my wife and daughter, I looked around the engine and gas tank to see if there was something I could do. I found the empty tank that confirmed my idea of running out of gas and I was able to switch the line from that tank to a small reserve tank, something I had never done before. If I had not been there, I expect my wife and daughter would have been stuck on the bay for a very long time. When we finally made our way back to the dock, the staff there were unapologetic and took more than 20 minutes to refill the tank. We went back out on the bay and by the time we returned at the end of the rental period, our total time on the water was less than 3 hours of the 4 hours we paid for. After waiting a day to see if anyone would contact me about this terrible experience, I called the owner Ken to voice my displeasure and he was not sympathetic or apologetic to me and worse than that started to berate me saying that "You're what's wrong with America, you got your boat rental and then want some kind of refund". He said he would talk to his staff that worked that day and then get back to me. Needless to say, I am still waiting for his return call. Stay away from this place, this type of business operation and attitude is really "What's wrong with America"!!!

So, I've read the reviews on here and frankly am sorry that I'm seeing so many negative. Sometimes, people only comment when it's "negative". I personally have written countless reviews on products and services and am in the service industry myself so let me be blunt about my experiences with Bayside. First off - I'm in my mid 30's and haven't been fishing since i was a kid. I didn't know that there were different knots to use, different colors fish were attracted to nor did I know that fishing line could be braided let alone the countless other types that are on the market today. The pro-staff at Bayside has provided me with seemingly endless bits of information and suggestions that have made me a fishing hero to my 6 year old son and his cousin. We've landed panfish / sunnies, trout, bass, pike, salmon and steelhead all using suggested methods and locations from Ken and his staff. I've had the opportunity to also engage with Ken on multiple occasions with my son and i've gotta tell ya, the write up in the paper about Ken and his passion for having kids get the joy of fishing with their dad is nothing short of spot on. Ken enthusiastically encourages using fishing as a means of bonding and goes out of his way to make sure people have what they need. He took the time to personally teach me knots that i could use and explained why I want to use them in each situation. He also has made suggestions on lures, baits per species of fish and locations each time I see him. Lastly, I took ken's suggestion on a new rod that I needed for Salmon this season. I hadn't used anything more than a medium weight rod before and nothing over 7ft. When he brought me an 8.5 medium heavy Riverbender I didn't even question him. He gave me two options, a rod / reel combo for $69 and one for $99. He didn't push me towards the more expensive one however I ended up selecting it. That said, due to MY ERROR, my rod broke while landing a monster salmon on the lake, I broke it. I shamefully brought my rod back to bayside and the staff looked at it in amazement. Not only did Ken take the time to work with me and make sure that my son was entertained while we talked, but he also let me use one of his charter rods for the day so that I could still go out with my boy and not miss the bonding time that I value so much. Ken didn't need to do this, nor did he NEED to replace my rod at his cost, but he did. I'm expecting my replacement for this weekend and I couldn't be happier about the professionalism that I've encountered with ken and his pro-staff. I'm truly sorry for those that post on here stating that they had to wait... but... bayside is a small location and I've seen lines out the door - that's the sign of a GOOD fishing shop. Ken knows whats needed and he's working on it. He has worked to bring bayside back to what it should be for our local community and is dedicated to his customers. A BIG thank you to Ken, his pro-staff and all of the people that have made the last 2 years some of the most enjoyable that I could have ever asked for with my son. You've landed a customer for life in me and my son. I'll see you this weekend and may more to come.

We had a horrendous experience labor day weekend...we rented a pontoon boat and firstly were horrified by the "updated pontoon" we spent $300 on..see photos. We went out to the bay within an hour had the high pitched boat alarm go off. I am attaching a screen print of how many times I called them that day for help. We pulled into the wonderful Bayside Restaurant and had great service though we had picnic food on the pontoon. An hour or so later they pulled up and transferred all our stuff to another pontoon. We then went back out to the bay. Within the hour the boat started taking on water...our three kids shrieking in terror...luckily another sympathetic passerby pontoon pulled up and took the kids and two friends leaving a few of us on the boat to get back to shore. We made it back..unsettled and frightened we went in to share our story. The manager on duty gave us back $100 of our $300 and offered us a free day which we declined. Really?!? Like I want to instill a fear of boats in our children. We looked so forward to this all summer and it will go down as a real memory minus my CUT infected foot two weeks later when I was cut by the fishing gear that banged into me when the pontoon nearly capsized. I am including photos of torn upholstry, rusted metal, moldy lifevests and flooded boat. :( don't risk it...stay away from boat rentals until they do something to improve their product...

Purchased a Groupon for boat rental. Terms and conditions on Groupon simply stated appointment required and weather permitting. When I attempted to use the Groupon (with an appointment) I was told it was only valid Monday - Thursday and a $50 deposit was required, and if the deposit was paid using a credit card, a $5 fee would be applied; none of these terms were stated on Groupon. Company refused to honor Groupon based on terms stated. Very misleading.
