PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) utilizes functionally based movement patterns with techniques of neuromuscular facilitation. PNF can improve range of motion, strength, stability, proprioception and function. It can be used in a rehabilitation program or for improving athletic performance.
.
.
This PNF D2 flexion pattern with a resistance band should be added to an upper body routine to improve functional strength and decrease the risk of a shoulder injury.
.
Stand upright with one arm crossed in front of your body, thumb down, holding band that is anchored below. Slowly raise your arm overhead across your body so the thumb points up and slowly reverse the motion back to the starting position. Try 2-3 sets of 10.

Does your back ever feel too stiff to perform an activity or sport? Spinal joint mobilizations may be right for you. Mobilizations can help reduce muscle tone, increase range of motion and decrease pain. Physical Therapists are excellent at providing this type of manual treatment to help accelerate the return to activities and sports.

Side Planks are not only an abdominal exercise but also a great way to work out your gluteus medius, minimus, and maximus.
.
Start with your feet together and one forearm directly below your shoulder. Engage your abs and squeeze the glutes to lift your hips so you’re in a straight position. Hold the position without letting the hips drop. Start at 10 seconds and as you become stronger gradually increase the time.

Physical Therapy can be beneficial even if you're not injured. It's a good time to have a PT take a look at you before starting a new exercise routine to prevent injuries and to get the most out of a workout.
