Please help our on-the-ground teams respond swiftly and lay the groundwork for support as they prepare for the long relief and recovery process. Please give whatever you can.
The most recent updates report over 4,600 Nepalese casualties, as well as many in India, Bangladesh, China and Tibet, and thousands of serious injuries across the regions. These numbers are likely to rise, given the aftershocks and aftermath of a disaster this significant.
Our Mercy Network leader, Pastor Deben, leads 15 churches and several other ministries serving the poorest areas of Kathmandu. They were in the middle of church services when the quake hit and some of the walls fell down. Gratefully, no one was significantly hurt there. Sadly, other church buildings fell, killing entire congregations. Read his first response email to us HERE.
We ask you to lift him and the other Mercy Network pastors up in prayer. As they've witnessed their communities fall apart and gear up to do what they can to alleviate the suffering, they also carry the weight of impact that this earthquake has on their own lives.
Let us also pray for the leaders of the country, other missions and aid workers on the ground, and most importantly, each and every individual heart that has been broken by this tragedy.
Our initial response will include funding in-country purchases of food, medical aid, and other immediate survival implements as needed by our established Mercy Network of 15 churches within the affected communities. We have also released all products already stored in country for use in the disaster relief effort. We are working with logistics companies to airlift supplies for short-term relief as well as long-term recovery.
Our secondary response, after the initial emergency phase, will be ongoing support of local church ministries to the hungry and hurting. Each of our in-country partner organizations is committed to meeting the desperate needs of poor children and families in their communities. This disaster will greatly increase the number of needy families they will be serving in the years to come.
