Happy 75th Birthday Golden Gate Bridge
Every so often in life as a photographer you get to experience something that truly blows you away. Last night was one of those nights. The 75th Birthday of the Golden Gate Bridge provided a spectacular show with fireworks illuminating what is probably the most famous bridge in the entire world. I took a lot of photographs, but I think this is the one that I ended up liking best of the bunch.
As special of a night as it was, it was even more special to be able to spend it with my family and friends. My wife +Julia Peterson
and my four children were with me and got to also witness this amazing production. I like giving my kids memories and this will be one that I know will stay with them their entire life. 25 years from now at the 100th Anniversary they will be able to look back and recall what a special night the 75th Anniversary was.
In addition to my family, it was very special to me to be able to share yesterday with some good friends as well.
As soon as I heard that there was going to be a fireworks show at the Golden Gate Bridge, I knew there was one person especially I wanted to try and shoot it with, +Joe Azure
. As those of you on G+ know, Joe has been one of the most prolific photographers of the bridge and over the last year and has consistently published some of the most mind blowing shots of the bridge I've ever seen in my life. Joe's connection to this structure runs deep and so it was such a treat to be able to hang out with Joe and his girlfriend +Kirsten Hrobsky
yesterday and last night.+Jonathan Goody
and his family, +Sly Vegas
and his lovely lady +Charli Blake
, +Amy Heiden
all were there as well. We all shared wine and pizza and good times. It was nice also to meet +Rob Dweck
(thanks for the chocolate Rob!) who I hadn't met before and who also has a great free ebook out (through May 31) called The Photographer's Guide to the Golden Gate Bridge. http://goldengatebook.com/+Cody Robertson
(who is more active on Flickr than G+) was there as well. Like Joe, Cody has been fascinated by this icon and has shot it extensively over the years.
We got to the bridge early to be able to get into the Headlands to get these shots. Unfortunately traffic for was really bad for a lot of people. We were still able to get parking at around 3pm and spent the 6 hours before the show just hanging out and hiking around some of the bunkers in the Headlands.
I had such a great time and am looking forward to being back there with some of the same people to celebrate the 100th Birthday 25 years from now.
