I have been going to Daisy May's since it first opened on its desolate stretch of 11th Avenue. Food Network acclaim and many years later, the neglect from Chef Adam Perry Lang is apparent. The prices continue to climb, the bbq can often be spotty, and the service is just as despondent and careless. At the same time, when the bbq is good, it's amazingly good and everything else melts away. The Oklahoma Jumbo Beef Rib is the true star here, and while it's price is now nearly 3x what it once was, on a good day, it's heavenly. Be sure to try the sides too; they are not gourmet, but generally good accompaniments.

In the burgeoning New York barbeque wars, pit master (and CIA graduate) Adam Perry Lang's remote smokery regularly comes out on top. Physically this place is a dive, which is one of the things it has going for it. Meats are slathered with thick spice pastes and complex sauces to create something exceptional that's tart, sweet, spicy and salty. Unfortunately, except for a narrow counter, there's no place to eat: It's takeout (and free citywide delivery) only. But the fact that so many are willing to find a nearby bench, or sit by the river, or eat God-knows-where, is testament to how far we will go for the holy grail of 'que.

The food here is very good and it may be the best barbecue in the city. You order up front and your meal is ready very quickly. There is no waiter/waitress service and the staff is good and courteous. There is ample seating in the back.

When I think of BBQ, I think BIG! Unfortunately, that mindset fell short when I came here to Daisy May's! Believe me, the food was good and all, but the price you pay was definitely not worth it. For a small portion of their Jack Daniels Pulled Chicken (8 oz) and two side dishes (6oz each) can cost you close to $15. Definitely didn't expect it to be like that, but the food was good thought, just not the price. Even Dallas BBQ had better deals than what Daisy May's had, and the portion was much more than what Daisy May's had to offer! Oh well, now I know! =/

Daisy May's is warm and inviting from the moment you walk in, with fantastic aromas, fun music and a pleasant staff. The pulled pork is delicious, even though it is a touch salty, and the sides are beyond yummy. The sweet potatoes were my favorite. The decor is simple but interesting, with fun things to discover on the high shelves.

Gather a group of 16 and go get yourself a whole pig. The meat is so tender and moist and you're guaranteed to fight with your friends over leftover meat. It makes sandwiches for days. The fixins are great too. The mac and cheese is creamy. I'm also a sucker for the sweet tea. It's got a nice hint of mint and you can keep the mason jars.
