Waited for 10 min for the host to get off the phone and speak to us. We were seated at a filthy table, our waiter disappeared for 15 minutes right after that. Took us about 30 min to get our food, both meat and chicken were burnt black, fries were so oily, they looked transparent, and the soup was not edible at all, we had to send it back. Silverware was dirty. In fact, the only good thing on my plate was a pickle that came with my burger, it was fresh and crispy. So, unless you're a crazy pickle lover, I cannot see any reason why anyone would come to that place more than once.

This is definitely one of my favorite spots in brookline. I would recommend checking it out. Pros: Food is always spectacular Great atmosphere Service is always attentive Cons: None

After two visits: Expensive. Miserable food. Nice Atmosphere. Pleasant staff. Why even write a bad review? The food was so bad I'm compelled. You'd expect from the menu and price this place would deliver on something -- the cheese plate and kids pasta plate where the only winners. Brown edged Caesar salad. Steak that was half over cooked with ridiculous browning sauce.

only been here for brunch - which is pretty good foodwise but never had decent service. the tables are really crowded together and you might get bumped into a bit. it is best to go here when its nice out and eat outside.

I've only been here for brunch and it is great. Delicious food! The benedicts are quite tasty and the drinks are good too. Their beer selection is small but great. They also have a separate gluten-free menu, which always scores some extra points. The waitstaff is very attentive and friendly. It is a little pricey so its only a "once-in-a-while establishment." Also, make sure to make reservations for brunch. It tends to get busy.

Whenever my fiancée and I have something to celebrate, and want something fancy, we go to the Fireplace. Wonderful menu (that changes regularly), mostly sourced locally, including great beer and wine list, and a nice, cozy atmosphere. They also have a decent selection of vegetarian options (important since my fiancée is vegetarian). Getting a cheese platter is a must - a great selection of local cheeses from MA, VT and NH of all different sorts (from blue to cheddar). Food is consistently fantastic, the only reason it gets 4 stars is because the service is a bit uneven. Some servers are fantastic, friendly, and always on top of getting what you need. Others are surly and can't be bothered. But the food is always worth taking a crap-shoot on the service.

They get comfort food right at the Fireplace. Always a good place to spot ESPN's Peter Gammons or The Globe's Bob Ryan. The kobe beef hot dog special & burger topped w/ cheese from Vermont's Shelburne Farms aren't to be missed.

I've passed this place a million times before since I live up the street and have always wanted to try it out. My husband caught the living socials deal which offered an appetizer and two entrees of any price all for $38! Obviously, we were very excited but when we went there for dinner tonight, I had one of the worst dining experiences EVER!!! Now, this is not because of poor service or horrible food. To be fair, their food was excellent and the waiter was very nice. So what happened was, my husband and I were in the middle of our entrees (he ordered the dry-aged steak and I the lobster heaven) and from the corner of my eye, I saw something dash along the wall. I didn't see anything the first couple times I noticed the movement, but shortly after, I saw the mouse. Now, I know there are many people out there, especially those who've worked in restaurants before, who are not afraid of them and don't think twice after seeing a mouse. But, I have an extreme phobia towards them and I flipped out! (modestly). I informed a staff and she promised to take care of it immediately, but after about 10 minutes nobody came to address this problem. Meanwhile, the mouse is still running around the bottom of that corner table and even underneath some customers' chairs. Luckily, they either didn't know or didn't care. But then a hostess continued to bring customers to that area where the mouse was hiding and I just couldn't bear knowing it and not telling those poor patrons. So I told the hostess and the girls who were about to get seated there thanked me multiple times for warning them. The hostess eventually brought those girls to another section of the room but after that, another hostess brought the next party of guests to that same corner where the mouse was at! I tried to tell her again but she stopped me by saying "the manager is coming" before I could say anything to warn those people. Now I understand how hard it is to keep a restaurant clean and rodent-free and I know they must apply strict standards, so what bothers me was not the sanitation level of their food and environment, but the fact that they continued seating customers there without saying anything?! Who knows what kind of reactions they might have if they see (or feel!) the mouse under their seats? If the restaurant is lucky, the patrons might not be as terrified as i am, but on the other hand, what if people sitting there happens to share this phobia and scream or jump onto their seats or whatever?! Wouldn't this be even more damaging to the restaurant's image than closing off that section for the night? But I must mention that the waiter was very understanding and relocated us (par our request) to a different part of the restaurant and the manager came to apologize and explain. It was also generous of her to not take money from us after this experience, but I still feel bad for people who had to see that or, even more, for people who don't know what's underneath their chair...... We do have 2 more livingsocial coupons to use up, but next time, I'm sitting at the bar on the high chairs!!!
