Truly Hilarious

TRUE STORY

THE BRAIN SAID : Since I control everything and do all the work I should be boss.

THE FEET SAID : Since I carry man where he wants to go and get him to do what the Brain wants, I should Be boss.

THE HANDS SAID : Since I must do all the work and earn all the money to keep all the rest of you going, I should be boss.

THE EYES SAID : Since I must look out for all of you and tell you where danger lurks, I should be boss.

And so it went with the Heart, the Ears, and the Lungs. Finally the Asshole spoke up and demanded that he be boss. All the other parts laughed and laughed at the idea of an asshole being boss.

The Asshole was so angered that he blocked himself off and refused to function. Soon the Brain was feverish, the Eyes crossed and ached, the Feet were too weak to walk, the Hands hung limply at his side, the Heart and Lungs struggled to keep going.

All pleaded with the Brain to relent and let the Asshole be boss, and so it happened. All parts did the work and the Asshole just bossed and passed out a lot of shit.

MORAL : You don't have to be a brain to be boss, just an Asshole.

+1 and share :D

What if the iPhone 5S is the most leaked product of all time… but nobody can tell because they all look like the iPhone 5.

Mini universes ,hmmmmmmmmmm

The specks here don't look impressive, but they're tiny artificial 'universes' in a ferrofluid: a liquid full of tiny magnetic particles.  Each speck is a region where one direction acts like time and the other two directions act like space.  So, they're like little universes with one less dimension than ours.

How does it work?  It's pretty far out.  The index of refraction of a material says what happens when you shine light into it.  For example, water has a bigger index of refraction than air, so when you shine a slanting beam of light from air down into water, the beam 'straightens out', moving in a less slanted way.   But in 2000, some Russian physicists created materials with a negative index of refraction.  If you shine a slanting beam light from air into something like this, it bends back the other way

And that's just the beginning.  There are materials whose index of refraction depends on the direction the light is going.  And if you take a ferrofluid and put it in a magnetic field, it can have a negative index of refraction in the direction of the magnetic field but a positive index of index of refraction in the other two directions!

When this happens, light of a chosen color will move through the material just like particles of a chosen mass would move through a universe where the direction of the magnetic field is time and the other two directions are space!   I wish I could explain this in plain English, but I don't know how - I'd need to use some math.  You can see the details in the paper where this discovery was announced:

• Igor I. Smolyaninov, Bradley Yost, Evan Bates, Vera N. Smolyaninova, Experimental demonstration of metamaterial multiverse in a ferrofluid, http://arxiv.org/abs/1301.6055.

It's pretty simple if you know the 'Klein-Gordon equation' which describes relativistic quantum particles of a chosen mass.  The point is just that in these specks, light of a given color (frequency) obeys the Klein-Gordon equation, but with the direction of the magnetic field playing the role of the time direction.  The negative index of refraction in that direction makes that direction act like time.

This paper uses the fashionable term 'multiverse' - I feel that's mainly just salesmanship, an attempt to grab attention.  It also uses the word metamaterial.  That's a complicated material crafted to have strange properties.  The ferrofluid they're using here is cobalt magnetic fluid 27-0001, which you can buy from a company called Strem Chemicals.  It's made of tiny specks of cobalt, 10 nanometers in size, floating in a mixture of kerosene and some fatty substances that keep the specks from sticking together.
