Opaekaa Falls can be seen from a lookout on Kuamo'o Road. These beautiful falls once had shrimp rolling in the turbulent waters at the base, which is where it got its name. Opaekaa means "rolling shrimp".

Pro tip: bring a hammock, because Kauai has a lot of palms you can park yourself under. 🌴 Photo: akearnitz15

Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1985 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is marked by its towering lighthouse. The ocean cliffs and tall grassy slopes of a dormant volcano provide a protective breeding ground for many Hawaiian seabirds.

Winter is the best time to spot the migrating humpback whales in the warm Kauai waters.

DO NOT BOOK THROUGH AIR BNB OR RAE CARMEN! We booked an "ocean view room" from Rae Carmen only to find out the view consisted of a parking lot and a plywood wall across the street, blocking any chance of seeing the actual ocean. She had also not arranged our arrival with the front desk, and did not answer her phone while we waited for over an hour to check in. The beach is a muddy 10 minute hike away. Don't be fooled by her description and ask for actual photos of the view and location (the photos on air bnb of the view have nothing to do with that actual view). The room itself was fine, and fit the description. The location and view are what were lied about to us, and her posting included nothing about being part of the Plantation Hale Suites, which would have been very helpful upon making our decision. The pool, however, is right next to the highway so plan on listening to traffic all day if you are poolside. We cancelled our booking and moved down the street to the Aston Islander, which was comparable in price and was actually right on the ocean. The pool there was way nicer as well. Kapa'a was a great central place to station ourselves to enjoy the island.

Staff is friendly and helpful. Place was actually pretty clean, although the kitchen could use some new appliances. Knives were dull, blender was not worth using. My worst critic, the beds. They are hard, and not comfortable what so ever. Pillows were flat and smelly. I ended up going to the store and getting some new ones. Other than that, for the price. It was pretty good!

Truly awesome! We stayed for 8 weeks and the customer service, room servicing could not have been nicer, more friendly, and it was so clean. Full-sized kitchen with a nice complete bathroom, and full beds: beds were so comfy we slept in the quiet comfort at least 10 hours a night the whole time. We will be back as soon as possible. LOVE THIS PLACE!

Local friendly, guest services seem to be happy at their jobs, which make the environment happy & easy going. If you want sincerity of the local ppl, this place does a good job. Being in the cleaning business myself I tend to judge hotels for their cleanliness. They ARE in fact clean. Cleaner than most. Def recommended.

I like this place cause the price is reasonable and it has a full kitchen. The price that we were able to fine we really good off Travelocity for a package. Definitely would come back again

Location is wonderful and being in Kapaa makes seeing the north and the south of the island so much easier. Close to shopping, grocery stores, restaurants and a 300 walk to the beach with a nice open field between the hotel and the water. Check to see if the Monk Seals are on the beach!! The people are all extremely friendly and helpful both on the phone and in person. Housekeeping made sure we had the kind of coffee we wanted and did an excellent job on the room. Having a full kitchen is a huge plus. The cost of eating out on Kauai gets expensive quickly. You have 3 grocery stores within 5 minutes of the hotel and Long's drug a 4 minute walk. Our room was in the middle of Bldg E on the second floor. Very quiet and relaxing with a garden view. The beds were very comfortable and the AC was a blessing to have. **Even if you don't smoke, go out and talk to the people smoking who own condos here. They can give you a lot of info you won't get anywhere else.
