- WCVB NewsCenter 5Meteorologist, present
Cindy Fitzgibbon, who joined WCVB-TV 5 April 8 as the meteorologist for NewsCenter 5's EyeOpener, said she has wanted to be a meteorologist since the sixth grade.
"I have always been a weather nerd. I love the change that weather brings every day," she said. Fitzgibbon, a native New Englander, grew up in Windham, Maine.
"Natick is home now," Fitzgibbon said. "I am rooted in the community with my husband and two sons, ages 7 and 5."
"The benefit of having of the early morning shift is that I can still be involved with my kids in the afternoon," she said.
Fitzgibbon, who studied meteorology at Lyndon State College in Vermont, has forecast the weather for 17 years and spent the last decade as a meteorologist in Boston.
She covered the deadly tornadoes of June 2011, the devastating ice storm of Dec. 2008 and Tropical Storm Irene in Aug. 2011.
"I've also covered perhaps 300 snowstorms," she said with a laugh.
After getting her degree in meteorology, Fitzgibbon started her career in Bismarck, N.D., and worked in Burlington, Vt. and Fort Myers, Fla., before coming to Boston in 2002.
She has been nominated for three Emmy awards.
"Don't ask me to pick a favorite season. I love them all," she said.Follow Cindy on Twitter: @Met_CindyFitz
