Google have created an AMAZING resource for schools to help teach coding. Teachers sign their class up to the CS First program and then kids work through at their own pace to watch videos and complete practical tasks to learn how to code.
Teachers need ZERO knowledge of coding to run this! (In fact, they should sit down with the students and learn alongside them).
We tried this in the year 4 class at my school and I was astounded with the student knowledge at the end of this course!

+Anthony Speranza recommends the book "Hello Ruby"
It looks like it has some great discussion points inside the book and on their website.

It's time we started getting in to some real discussion about change in education... I will be running a bookclub on Carol Dweck's book 'Growth Mindsets' on Wednesday August 17 at 7pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time).

It will be held online and you are all invited. You will need to have read the entire book by this date.
Feel free to post suggested questions below.

Look forward to getting in to some great discussion!

Challenge based straw making activities. Adding some constraints to the task really steps up the thinking required in these tasks! http://infinitesums.com/commentary/2012/12/10/time-to-kill.html

Another idea for an inexpensive maker activity. This would be great for a lunchtime library maker station table. http://beafunmum.com/2014/09/straw-construction-challenge/
