Probably lighter than the laptop you're reading this on, and lighter than a gallon of milk. 6 lbs / 2.7 kg.

Pork n' Pine

These bike-riding Baltimorean ballahs, deliver Xmas trees with a side of pulled pork while blasting Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" on a boom box.

In 24 hours, I'll be embarking on my first proper Brevet, a 300 km ride from Gurgaon (near Delhi) into Haryana and crossing into Rajasthan.

I've got butterflies in my stomach. A lot of circumstances have stood in the way, including a crash a few days ago, miserably cold weather, money, and multiple social commitments clashing with the date of the event. I missed the first official Brevet event, a 200 km one, and regretted missing it bitterly.

So as of today, I'm mostly healed up and reeling from blowing cash on clothing and equipment to get me prepared for the weather, and then more cash getting the bike repaired after that crash (new bar tape, new tire, wheel repair, new brake cable, etc).

Sometimes, passion is expensive. So be it.

To add to the craziness, I work nights. This means I'll be cycling back to work tonight, doing a shift, then leaving directly for the Brevet. None of my Delhi cycling friends are attending it because another long distance group ride slash weekend getaway is kicking off at the same time. So this means that after the Brevet, I have to ride back to Delhi (25 km) alone and presumably late at night.

Still, I'd rather try this and fail than skip it and regret not doing it.

Wiki: "A rider who has successfully completed a 200 km brevet is called a randonneur. This is a lifelong title."
