This is extraordinary viewing in my opinion. Emotional & powerful.

A 5 minute movie about Booze & Pain from Down Under.

Sobering storytellers them Aussies, and one thing, they still call it Christmas there. Stubborn aren't they?

Watch it on Cafeppl (Cafe People) at any Starbucks CafeSpot.

Weird but perhaps true....?

The @RupertMurdoch Twitter profile is marked as verified, and Jack Dorsey just tweeted a confirmation, but its still difficult to believe.

I don't for a moment believe that is Murdoch, himself, typing out tweets. He has staff for that. Yet even to make the effort to appear more approachable to the regular people of the world seems so out of character for him.

Think all day and all night long about how to improve the social experience on the CafePeople site. Would you call that fear? Yes - I hate to fail on something important. Would you call it passion? Yes - nothing would excite me more than getting this right.

Story
Tagline
The "Coffee Guy", CEO behind CafePeople- a social site for coffee lovers in beta.
Introduction
Who's in the coffee shop?
Like most of us, I've always known there are many interesting people in cafes, but the trick is to figure out who is there and how to meet them.

I hate walking out of cafes knowing that I could have met somebody that would have an impact on my life. I suspect that many patrons innately know this too.

Why not let a little serendipity kick in?

And so, it fascinated me that in this so-called highly connected "social era" with electronic devices all around us, that we couldn't solve this one problem. Or at least, nobody had bothered too hard to try.

I'm not saying that all people in all cafes want to be identified and reached out to, but I am saying (from my research), that a good deal of people would love fresh interaction from genuine new friends.

That concept of 'turning strangers into friends' makes a whole lot of sense within great coffeehouses. It's all about the social experience of being there, otherwise why wouldn't most people stay at home and get a premium coffee machine and make drinks at a fraction of the cost? Clearly, they do want the social experience and some degree of interaction.

So this is the thing that has keep me up nights as we worked on the CafePeople project (for longer than it should have taken) - creating a social site for cafe-goers that is truly useful and is distinctly different from the other social sites out there.

I was never going to trudge in the snow and follow someone's else's footsteps. So CafePeople had to be different from the get-go. Already too many 'me-too' sites out there ...

Users of CafePeople can connect over coffee, and do it for Life, Love, Work or Play.

Hopefully we got it right, and millions of people who visit the 50,000 coffee shops every day across the US will find true social value in CafePeople

Site launches on May 1, 2012 for a select crowd to kick the tires.

Go to the www.cafepeople.com site for a sneak preview.
Bragging rights
First to create a social engagement platform for the auto industry called CarConverse. Was ahead of its time (danger signals!), but hey you can only be leading or following. Featured live chat, behavioral analysis & prediction of customer intent, realtime one-on-one messaging. Era 2003 (pre-Twitter/Facebook) it was much harder to stitch these things together. Some valuable lessons came out of that 'never-say-die' project.
