"Usually, stress is a result of either thinking about something that has happened in the past, and thinking that the same thing is going to happen again. Or imagining what could happen, often based on what’s happened in the past. Our brains are actually wired to do that."

IT'S TIME...

...for Bev and I to go on our yearly trek to St Croix. I write this, not to gloat, but to remind you of how necessary it is to take time to relax, rejuvenate, and restore our bodies, minds and souls. Oh...and I get to be the "bar wench." I make a healthy cocktail each day. Be watching for photos of my Cocktail o' the Day on the RiverWest Acupuncture Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/riverwestacupuncture/

This is the first year in a long time, that I have looked forward to this trip so far in advance. Usually, I don't get excited until the day before we go, so that I can stay present at work. I find that counting down time till the next vacation, the next weekend, the next time that I will do XYZ...is a excellent strategy to wish your life away and feel completely unfulfilled. It also works along the same line as, I'd be happy IF I could, lose weight, find a new house, find a new job, find a husband, wife, buy a boat, etc...

One of my goals this year is to be happy and content, right here - right now.

Here is one thing that I do that helps me stay in the moment.
SLOW DOWN

Be conscious about what you are doing, right now. I've found that if I stay present to what I'm doing right now, then life itself is more enjoyable.

For example, I'm doing housework and I don't want to, so I'm cranky about it. However, if I slow that down, it's not the task itself, it's what I make it mean and what I think about it. I'm thinking, that it will take me all day, I won't have enough time to do...long list. Those thoughts create the suffering around the housework. When I can slow down, I see a picture that I really like, but rarely notice, or I simply enjoy the feel of our home, or the view of our back yard.

Try it.

While we are gone, Sheridan and Scott will be available to see you and take great care of you while I rest

We put a new memory foam mattress under these sheets and it is divine! As if you needed another reason to fall asleep during treatment...

Feelings of uncertainty and even doubt may be triggered by environmental conditions which are completely out of your control. However, while you can’t control the weather, you do have a lot of influence over your reaction to it. Read more on our RiverWest blog.

Living with depression can be exhausting and painful and feel as if you will never be rid of the affliction or experience what it means to truly be happy again. Understanding just how depression can take control of your life and treating it as the illness it is are important steps to overcoming its overwhelming effects.
