Pretentious, over priced, monotone and one dimensional food. Everything tastes the same and the heat of the food destroys you palate from the first bite. The duck fried rice was cooked with ordinary long grain rice, overly rich, salty and grotesquely spiced. The service is cold and scripted and not inviting at all. The pork chop was tasty and the char was delicate, Unfortunately my taste buds were already scorched from the boring and overpowering use of chili. What a disappointment, the place looked promising.

I don't know how this place can get any negative reviews. I went there on Valentines Day, and chose the 6 course special with my girlfriend. Although it was pricey (much cheaper to order normal items), this place, hands down, was phenomenal. We are both crazy foodies, and enjoy all types of food, especially from Sapori, Buddakan, Vetri, Bistro Di Marino, Nunzio's, etc. Their beef short rib, is literally to die for. The ambiance is also very nice, considering its a Philly restaurant (normally minimal room). The only thing I'd advise against is the Sake sampler. Not fond of their sake selection, so I wouldnt try again. Overall, I would recommend this to anyone.

Worst place for Valentine's Day. Had a reservation, but can't even get a table? We were seated around the open kitchen, where we could clearly see how such food was made and got fed up already. The loud music and noise... I'd say the whole building is a factory rather than a restaurant. Pekin Duck, seriously? Cook duck like how you cook steak, make it medium rare inside but still impossible to chew?

Delicious Asian fusion in a lively setting. The Dan Dan noodles were excellent and generously portioned. Would recommend for a date night or special event.

Great food great service. Graffiti Bar is not what I expected but the bartenders made us feel comfortable. I definitely recommend it. The chefs tasting is the way to go for sure.

I do not know what people like about this place. Ambience is very bad, too much noise and it is dark. You do not really see your food -which I do not like. I will not go again. Asked for glass of Merlo and it was crappy wine.

Have been to Sampan a few times and loved it. Last week five of us went and decided to try the tasting menu for the table-WOW-what a great value! It was $45 per person and the food just kept coming and coming. We even had to take leftovers home. And it was all the excellent, well prepared food we have always enjoyed. When you go, do the tasting menu-it sounds like a lot of money but the value is great and you will have tried items you probably would not have noticed otherwise. Trust me, it's worth it! Thank you, Sampan, for yet another great dining experience.
