Echoes of Summer

Is it really Thorsday already? The past week or so has been a dreary, grey, blur. Lots to do, but little change in the sky. Yesterday we did have big, wet, white snowflakes falling from the grey clouds, but we're still a bit above freezing, so everything melted away.

I enjoy all the seasons, but I much prefer days with some light. The drab grey days are what bore me, which brings me to this picture. It seemed like an excellent day to inject a bit of color into the GPlus stream.

I hope you'll have a good start to the day and that it will get even better as the weekend draws closer.

little tree

by: e.e. cummings (1894-1962)

I had to write this because sometimes we forget the smallest details that help us discover Christmas magic each year. I've sat back and watched so much bitterness and anger this year - online, here, in the news - and I need to keep reminding myself that we only have one life to live. One. We get one shot, and then we're gone. I'm at an age now where I have no room whatsoever for those things any more.

Every page I've set up here was created out of love for topics and things that interest me: like music, and the arts, and helping others. I love sharing my enthusiasm and love of what I thoroughly enjoy, but I don't have any room in my heart for bitterness and a constant barrage of negativity. None. I post about things that excite me, and that topics that bring out the best in me. And yes, I really enjoy sharing those with you. I do.

But now and then, I'm knocked down, and that's when I need to dust myself off and post something so beautiful - so profound - as a simple poem like this. We've all been there. I'm sure you have, too. This season isn't only for kids - it's for everyone who keeps love in their hearts all year long. It's for people who truly want to share the warmth of their hearts with friends, and family, and many times, with complete strangers.

All of us, at one time or another, have been this little tree. We have. (whether you want to admit it or not). I started out the year as that little tree. I had no job, I was constantly depressed, and all of my thoughts were so very dark. All of us have been scared, and alone in that forest, and hopefully, all of us have felt the warmth of caring that that little tree felt when it was taken home and felt proud. I found work, I'm in a much happier place now, and this should be a great Christmas season. [Here's hoping he was replanted after the holiday, but different times, right? :-)]

little tree

little silent Christmas tree
you are so little
you are more like a flower
who found you in the green forest
and were you very sorry to come away?
see i will comfort you
because you smell so sweetly
i will kiss your cool bark
and hug you safe and tight
just as your mother would,
only don't be afraid
look the spangles
that sleep all the year in a dark box
dreaming of being taken out and allowed to shine,
the balls the chains red and gold the fluffy threads,
put up your little arms
and i'll give them all to you to hold
every finger shall have its ring
and there won't be a single place dark or unhappy
then when you're quite dressed
you'll stand in the window for everyone to see
and how they'll stare!
oh but you'll be very proud
and my little sister and i will take hands
and looking up at our beautiful tree
we'll dance and sing
"Noel Noel"
